More wicked and gritty Gears of War 2 screenshots have cropped up on the internet, this time showing off areas of the game a little less vague than before - namely multiplayer action and a 'ruddy great flamethrower.
In the shots (which come in all sorts of sizes) you can clearly see the napalm weapon alongside a new riot shield, which could turn cover standoffs in Gears 2 well and truly on their head.
The player count for multiplayer games has been upped from eight to ten, with five-on-five gameplay options.
New modes include Wingman, which sees ten players face off in teams of two, and Epic's own take on CTF, 'Meatflag', where the flag is a (presumably CPU-controlled) character who runs around the map trying to defend himself. Sounds good.
I'll definetely be getting this, its looking very good and I loved the original, but I would of prefered it if the multiplayer was upped even more to say about 12 or 14 overall.
I am loving the extra colour & vibrancy to the locales. My biggest complaint of the original was just how dull, dark, brown & uninspired the scenery was. It just wasnt an interesting place to be.
& is that a double team chainsaw attack in the first screen? Awesome! I am really looking forward to this now. Looks like this will turn the Gears IP from a good one to a brilliant one.
Its good that they have put more characters in. In gears one it looked as if Marcus and his squad won the war single handedly. Guy with the cowboy hat looks great
Which mag did they scan these crappy shots out of?
i agree, the picture quality is awful. i hope the final product won't look anything like this.
if it does, then well, it'll look rubbish.
Hehe, now theres an innovative idea for a new artstyle in a game. We've had realism, we'd had cinematic dirty grey, we've had film grain, we've had bloom lighting and we've had cel-shaded.
How about... 'poor-quality scan!' Yeah. Rock on.
Seriously though, quality aside, those shots look awesome. Really liking the new open environments.

Beg to differ. What sets GOW out in terms of Mult-player as oppoed to halo and COD4 is that the battles always feel more intense and exhilerating. The fact tha there are no respawns on the main game modes and that the teams are small means that everyone works together much more and the feeling of satisfcation on winning is exaggerated further.
With Halo and COD people think nothing of run and gun, die, respawn and youll find that many of the high scorers in a match also have a high death count. In gears that doesnt exist as people are much more careful as they know once they are dead they are dead.

Very true, but if you're in a team which consists mainly of your friends, then coms should be better and the team better organised and I totally agree with 'average' (your kill count after taking away deaths) in COD4. The amount of idiots who boast about getting 30 kills for example but don't mention their 28 deaths!
I hope one thing they fix is that EVERY mode gives you the multi-player weapon achievements. I just shockingly learned the other day that the new Annex mode will give you no weapon achievements, and that apparently you have to get one achievement from one single mode . That is pretty lame for a game of GOW's stature.
Personally I've wanted melee weapons in the game for awhile. A real double-edged sword in that its a quick one-hit kill if your close enough, but if your caught and the enemy has a gun your in trouble.

yeah...my a time on Halo ive been faced with a guy on my team when we have lost who complains how bad we are caue we only got 8 or 9 kills whilst he has 20...only to point out that out of the 50 deaths for our team 38 of them was his.
Tosser.
Anyway....gears multiplay isa much better experience imo. No other game has made my heart pound or made me shout more. Nothing like being one of only two people left on the map with only 1 minute left and ending up in a shotgun battle where you know if you get the kill youll be the toast of your team. Just doesnt happen in respawn games

No it certainly doesn't but its a bummer when you're the first one killed and have to wait for the next round to start.
yeah but as most matches are 5 mins it isnt so bad.
Anyway...gives you reason to be cautious and work with your team members. Anyway...being dead andwatching your own team take it down to the wire can be quite thriling as well.
I think a clan mode needs to be put in along the same lines as halo3 to keep people interested (and stop all the loners from complaining about having to fight against a team of friends) and theglitches need a greta big smack out.
