Call of Duty 4 has just reached an astounding 10 million copies sold, Infinity Ward studio head Vince Zampella has revealed.
The Activision-published FPS is one of less than ten games to reach the monolith sales milestone since 2000 (GTA takes up three of the spots). And at £40 a pop, the bods behind the shooter have made a lot of cash.
What's more, the downloadable Variety Map Pack has been served to over 1.5 million customers already. We bet they've got massive motors in their car park now.
Speaking to Cnet, Zampella acknowledges that COD 4 has set the bar extremely high for Infinity Ward, and it's hard to imagine the studio being able to come right back with another 10 million seller.
CoD 5, developed by Call of Duty 3 studio Treyarch, is set to be revealed in the next few weeks. Will it be able to raise the money bar?
Any word on whether or not the series is remaining in the present day or going back to WW2?
was rumoured on Charlie Oscar Delta that was WW2 Pacific Theatre but can't for the life of me find the link cos I'm sure there was some sort of confirmation too
Pc Gamer states it's going back to ww2in there Spy section. I am so bored of companies trampling on the grave of ww2 for the same battles. A good report would also have listed the other games in the list. so get to it.
I think it deserves the sales too. Sure, the story is short, but the multiplayer is amazingly well balanced.
And no, Treyarch made the mistake of going back to WW2 and people are bored of it. So it might get a couple of million sales, but it won't be making a huge amount of money.
And obviously Infinity Ward agree, since they recently said they won't be handing the franchise to a 3rd party any more.
agree with all that has been said, been playing these since the first one and all praise is well deserved.just go"s to show what pc gaming can do even when its "dying".
I just played through the 1st level last night. Looking forward to taking it online as everyone rants about it. Well done guys Bet this news made Crytek very, very unhappy
and rightfully so, to me this is the male equivalent of what girls make of 'chocolate'. Although let's face it, the offline is good but it just wouldn't be the game it is without the online play.
Never really got into the multiplayer (although this will change as my mate has just got it and is ravin about it,go figure) but for me, the single player is probably the best I have ever, EVER played...maybe even better than Half Life (all ghillied up being probably my favourite level).

That may be what Infinity Ward want, but as far as I'm aware Activision has not agreed to this, (presumably because they want to spunk out releases on a yearly basis.)
