Guitar Hero: Aerosmith fights for centre stage

New shots of one of FOUR Guitar Hero games releasing this year
Bored of plastic guitars yet? No? Then here's some Guitar Hero: Aerosmith shots, one of four games heading up Activision's Guitar Hero assault in the next 12 months.

The other two, in case you were wondering, are World Tour (consoles), On Tour (DS) and Metallica, which recently emerged on a company SEC filing.

The Aerosmith spin-off lets you play through the band's entire career, says Activision. As well as sporting tons of Aerosmith's hits, tracks are also promised from "celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way". McFly?

Apparently, it's out at the end of the month (June 27).

This is becoming no more than a licence to print money for the developers!
Cynical i know, but true.

Yup. Guitar Hero has already made Activision over $1 billion. From a marketing standpoint I can see why they want to squeeze it for all they can, but from a consumer perspective the market is now saturated with games like this.

Aerosmith I'd consider because I've loved them all my life. But I won't be getting anything that requires a whole band's kit.

Maybe they're doing it so that you can't move in a game store without tripping over it. Maybe they want people to accidentally pick it up instead of something else Smile

I'll be getting world tour (minus the other instruments) & On Tour. But not the other 2. Rock the 80's showed me not to get expansion ones that have been restricted in anyway to a certain era or group as you lose all the variety GH gives.

I think the GH games still offer great value for money. I personally buy a lot of games and can think of very few that get used as much as GH - plus, they'll always have a lot of replay value and all your friends will love it.

I think the Band specific titles seem pretty cool, but I guess it's a case of whether or not you'll enjoy playing the songs. Aerosmith (based on some of the hands-on reports) sounds very challenging and I really don't mind Aersomiths music ('Sweet Emotion' is a great track) so, I'll definitely be picking that up. Metallica is another one that I'd definitely consider, but I'm sure there'll be others that I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot bargepole (GH: Coldplay anyone??).
