It looks like the rumours were true; Crytek has launched the official website for Crysis Warhead, the follow-up to its chilly 2007 FPS.
It's only an image and a logo at the moment, but we've heard that the bloke in the teaser pic is indeed the annoying English marine Psycho, who replaces the original's protagonist Nomad in the nano suit.
Crytek confirmed last week that there will "almost certainly" not be any more updates for the original game, and that we'll find out why "in the very, very near future". Now we know.
Other than that there's not much to go on. Is it a full sequel? Will it be released on consoles? Rumours for the latter are still going strong, but we're sure all we be revealed when magazines blow their scoops in the next week...
Psycho!? PSYCHO?! That t**t! As in the response if Psycho was asked what he thought of Psycho being the new protagnist to Warhead.
He's an appalingly poor stereotype. We brits ent lyk dat at al guv'ner! As wikipedia says "He tends to use British profanity". British profanity.... Jerkoff.
The again who do you have to pick from? -The dead guy at the beginning who is unashamedly dead -The annoying Jester, who thinks himself a rapper quite blatantly ("Adios, amigo" wtf is that?) but fortunately is also dead. -Prophet, who is essentially the black Lt from COD4 and now a bit skitz -Or Nomad who's a most frightfully boring protagnist, making Pac Man look like a fully fledged and (forgive the pun) 3 dimensional character.
So Psycho is the only one who isnt dead or nuts. But he is crap. It's a shame.. I liked Crysis but the characters were awful.
I see they have also stopped supporting Crysis. There will not be a new patch. 1.3 I think it would have been. Let's hope this one is playable over pretty this time.
Played Crysis and thought it was buggy glitchy and just plain crap... From a graphics perspective it was amazing but the actual game was way below par of what people should crave...
And now they are ditching support to bring out another game?!...What retarded way of thinking!
"Ahh you know what? lets forget the old game its the past lets just release another hopefully less buggy game!"
Think I'll skip Cryteks further creations until I get full word that it isn't bugged out glitchy and has actually GOT a decent storyline/gameplay
R.I.P Crysis...You never got near best FPS title of '07
I think we should see what we can get from the picture. I think it deceptively full of info. 1) He looks worst for wear = possibly alienated byhis company/employers 2) No funky helmet/comm gear. Perhaps swapped sides/betrayed (a la Haze or Deus ex.) 3) Background - a mine (can't see too well, office monitor reflecting window light...), so perhaps a more claustrophobic feel to the game? 4) The title - "Warhead", refers to Psycho and, I think, reinforces my idea that he's swapped sides - he's a "warhead" something that could destroy an organization of sorts...

Is that definately Psycho (I remember him looking a bit more like Wayne Rooney)? Did we ever see the protagonist from Crysis? Is it possible that this is he? Is it possible that this 1 picture isn't showing the protagonist? I think that people are jumping to conclusions (CVG leading people to conclusions?)... I quite liked Crysis. There were some fantastic open world, long range sniping, powerful weapon, moments leading up to the Alien ship. From there it was more than a little bit poo! So I'm not too excited about a sequel. If they manage to recreate the 1st half of the game, great I'll be 1st in the queue, but I can't see how that would work plotwise. Thus I fear a game of naff aliens. We'll see...
I loved every minute of crysis and didn't notice any bugs at all. I am worried that this sequal will be just fighting aliens, as in crysis it wasn't boring, just hard and not as good as what had come before.
Crysis wasn't massive - and after it's release the first thing Crytek wanted to say was how they were moving onto consoles! They have also announced no more patches for Crysis which is annoying a lot of Crysis players, and does not make them look PC gaming friendly any more! So personally I put it at no more than 70% we'll see it on PC! At the very least it could take the GTA route of console versions in the fall, PC version in 2009 after they have made their money on the larger console market!
I wouldn't agree. With GTA (between 1, 2 and 3etc.) there was no story continuity, therefore making them on consoles first made sense. (Actually, both GTA 1 and 2 appeared on consoles too, unlike Crysis 1.)
So, since Crysis is heavilly based on "storytelling", it would make no sense releasing it just on consoles - where people have not played part 1.
Imagine watching Bourne SUpremacy without seeing #1 first.....
It wouldn't surprise me if this is an expansion pack in the same vein as Half-Life, where you play through the same events as a different character & from their slightly different perspective.
I love the way we all assume games announced will be coming to PC! We must be living in 2003!!
Thats because Crysis is massive and has established its name on PC - so anyone that would want number 2 has played no1 (Only on PC)

Crysis wasnt massive? Then how come even you my little man know OF crysis? It has sold millions! its been rated as the best graphics ever made so how can it not improve on that inless it goes to PC again?
No more patches you say? Thats because the game is a couple of years old now and they are spending time on the new game - not to mention the fact that Crysis seems stable enough to me?
And GTA came out on PSone and PC, so its not like that was built on PC - and the marketing from GTA was pushed for PSone!
For those of you that bothered to click on the image and follow the link to the Crytek website, you'd know that:
a) It definitely IS Psycho in the picure b) It will follow his path in parallel to Nomad's in the original c) It's due for an Autumn 08 release d) It is, despite the console fanboys cheering, coming to PC - in fact, it will be PC exclusive (at least in Autumn 0, which kind of makes a mockery of the "consoles first" claims.
By the way, some of you may be interested to know that higher sales on consoles does not mean making more money - see the lead article in this month's Edge. A title can sell 1 million on Pc, and 3 million on consoles, yet the Pc sales will make more profit because of the licensing on consoles.

Yes, as you said, you were right. No bad thing in my book - if it were a straight sequal (presumably still to come) there wouldn't be any pre-freeze, Korean army sections.
