Zelnick mentioned the third game in an investor call related to the newly released Q2 financials (via Kotaku). "It's more likely that it would be released coincident with BioShock 3," he said.
We knew that Take-Two had plans for the series, but talking about a third one already comes as quite a surprise. Especially when news on BioShock 2 is light on the ground at the moment.
Of course, there was a report in March that Take-Two was considering a BioShock MMO, clearly hinting at big plans for the franchise. Big things ahead for fans then...
I knew they would milk the series, I blame the media for bigging the first game up so much.
It doesn't require a sequel, we have seen Rapture, I'm sure there is a lot more to see, but I'm also sure it will look pretty similar.
I think they'll rush it, or make them them overlapping stories, or maybe they are going the episodic route to have more of them in shorter spaces of time (Valve take note), but still charge full price for them.
Another company going the way of EA, another franchise becoming a cash cow
I agree, I don;t think Bioshock has any need for a sequel. Sure, seeing Rapture again would be nice, but I think the novelty would wear off after a while. I mean, how many times can you feasbily revisit an art deco underwater city?
Unless, of course, they plan to set it elsewhere, and just pick up on the same ideas and themes. That might work well.
I think this Gore Verbinski helmed movies has potential to be the best games adaption ever, which isn't quite a challenge considering the s**te adaptations in the past - all of them! Gore is a pretty good director - hope he can make good use of the Bioshock IP
Gore is a pretty good director
Sorry what?! Are you saying that about a guy that's hade 3 Pirates movies in a row?! When WILL they learn not to make game movies...
This is the only game movie Ive ever been excited about, i think it has potential to be excellent... Im not so sure about a sequel to Bioshock though...
When talking about a Bioshock sequal I always post this:
I think seeing Rapture at it's peak would be more impressive. Imagine it completely new, well-lit and full of happy people.
Now imagine as the game progresses, those happy people start to lose the plot and do weird stuff - including you. It'd be cool if it messed with your perceptions - getting you to chase, talk to or kill stuff, then having you snap out of it and find out that bug you killed was actually an innocent civilian, or that person you talked to wasn't really there. That'd be creepy.
Yep its more of a prequal but that sounds soooooo good!

Dont know what they'd do in third one though
Or they could use your idea in the second one but from the perspective of rebuilding rapture, everything goes fine for a while then the madness seeps back in.
If the next title bombs then the third bioshock and movie could be dead in the water so to speak. Until plot details of the 2nd game are released there no point discussing a 3rd title!!
Just don't rape it. Sequels for the sake of it = NO!
Exactly, I think the main goal of the team should be to try and top the story of the first - if they can do that (and I'm confident that they could), then the sequels should be very good indeed.

All of them? The Silent Hill adapation might not be one of the greatest movies ever made, but I certainly wouldn't call it "s**te".
Sadly it seems like they are planning to milk the series big time, which is nothing new these days but it'll be a shame after the original was so good. They should just make a prequel and end it at that.
