An ex-employee of LucasArts has leaked details regarding a number of titles in development, including a BioWare-developed Knights of the Old Republic MMO.
The source has told Kotaku that he is one of 75-100 employees laid off in a massive shake-up yesterday, including the producer of the Lego Star Wars and Indy titles.
As well as KotOR 3, the ex-staffer spilled the beans on production going ahead with Battlefront 3 (which we exclusively revealed is being developed by Free Radical), a new (non-Lego) Indy game (although we knew about that) and a Wii lightsaber game.
Considering the leak comes from an ex-LucasArts employee, we're not expecting a confirmation of these titles any time soon. Still, we know that LucasArts and Bioware are working on *something* together. We'll have to see.
Lightsaber game for the Wii. Its the game the concole was made for. make it first person and make the wiimote be the lightsaber and the nunchuck for moving. please make it so you can deflect blaster shots with your saber.
Could even have a mini game on the milenium falcon block the shots from that little ball thing in a new hope when obi wan is teaching luke how to use his lightsaber.
Cant wait for a new kotor but also a battlefront 3 will be so cool on the next gen machines and another indy game getting indy lego after work cant wait.
MMO's are the george foreman grills of the gaming industry.
Oh shoosh up you lot, how many MMO's are out on consoles at the moment.. very little! You've got your single player Force Unleashed coming soon.. so stick that in your mouth and stop whinging! (said the vicar)..

How many epic single player quests anywhere near the standard of KOTOR are out on consoles nowadays too eh?
& I dont care about the licence, in fact I like the KOTOR despite the licence as I dont like Star Wars but KOTOR is a fantastic game. So suggesting Force Unleashed is a bit pointless to me. & its a completely different game.

What about Mass Effect?.. You could maybe even argue that GTA operates with a similar kinda format (developing character, storyline, character base).. MMO's havnt really been touched by consoles yet.. all we hear are rumours and "in development".

Not interested in Mass Effect. Seems to me as though you spend 90% of the game just watching characters have conversations or exploring empty, samey planets.
GTA is nothing like KOTOR. Thats a pretty tedious link.
Dont see why they couldnt have used a new IP or release a new IP to takes KOTOR place. Hopefully Fallout 3 will be good.
KOTOR MMO! Battlefront 3! Wii Lightsaber game! This sounds way too good to be true! Please somebody at lucas arts come out and comfirm this is true PLEASE!!!

Shame though as my broadband is terrible (I live in a village and have Virgin Media through ADSL). I used to have BE when I lived in the city (which was fan-bloody-tastic).

What is so different between KOTOR and GTA?
You control a character, who's personality can develop as the game progesses. You make decisions to influence that personality and the characters around you. You develop their skill base and weapon-set, go on various missions across a varied environment, create alliances and new enemys, explore maps freely and you as a player decide when to undertake those missions...
Yes you can say that KOTOR is less linear than GTA, but in terms of highlighting game simularities... its not a tedious link.

Hello friend, in-case you have not noticed, you wish came true. Bioware did work on a new IP, it was called Mass Effect. However you just put Mass Effect down in the first paragraph you made, therefore you will never be happy.
In all seriousness, Mass Effect isn't anything like you described it, if you liked Kotor, then you'll enjoy it.
Slightly off topic but, someone did mention force unleashed sooooo,......am i the only one who just wants a new star wars FPS shooter. None of this force power b******s in third person, I want blasters and lasers and stormtroopers 'coming out of the god damn walls' anyway, you know what i mean.
Looks like I'm not the only person disappointed at the thought of a KOTOR MMO. I really loved the first two single player games and was hoping it would end with the third game in a similar style to the original Star Wars trilogy. An MMO pretty much destroys any chance of that happening unless they totally change the formula of an MMO (which I would love for somebody to do but I really can't see that happening any time soon!!)
A pity really. Another point to consider is that we already have one Star Wars MMO, Star Wars Galaxies, do we really need two??!
I've just gone from an extreme emotional high ("omg KOTOR3! 1337!" to an extreme emotional low ("FFS I have no interest in MMOs" in the space of 10 seconds. Gutted :\

Well, we don't need two, but I think we deserve at least one good one.
I'm quite excited personally. As long as they don't make it a game like WoW, and make it actually a challenging universe to live in, so people whom are Jedi actually have power and are respected/feared, rather than being the first "class" to go under the nerf batton.
I'd like to see a game where you start off as an average citizen, and yes whilst you can go and do fun things, you mostly remain a civilian. This would be made fun, but it would require effort, luck and perseverance to break free of the role. To become a politician, a mercenary, a member of the army.
I also hope Jedi isn't a "class" you can work towards earning. I hope its GM's going through-out the game, secretly monitoring players, and when they find a mature player whom they feel deserves it, they grant them the force and the ability to become a fully fledged Jedi.
thank god something has been said about battlefront 3,ever since they announced it in August 2006,i have been bugging Free radicals letters page(the one with the robot from TS)..but never got an answer
hope they dont ruin it,star wars battlefront is what got me into online gaming

Yes it is, GTA is nothing like KOTOR, you might as well say Mario is like GTA cos you control a character who has to complete set objectives to finish the game.
There are very minor role-playing elements to GTA but it is not similar to KOTOR. You do not "devleop a skills base and weapons set" you more or less use what weapon you like best and those tend to be pretty similar to each other. Not sure where the "skils set" come into it either. KOTOR is a typical Bioware RPG with much more depth than GTA.
