An achievement system similar to the one used in Lord of the Rings Online looks set to become a part of World of Warcraft, adding achievements for PvP, exploration, questing and more.
The achievement system can be accessed by typing in '/achievement' into the Wrath of the Lich King Alpha test, according to blog Death Knight, who also took the screenshots you can see below.
The images seemingly reveal that players will gain achievement points for doing a variety of tasks that range from completing 2000 quests to exploring the whole of Azeroth.
It's currently not known what rewards these achievements will bring, nor if players will retrospectively receive the achievements for things they've already done.
NDAs are still active for the Alpha, so don't expect any confirmation from Blizzard soon.
Not sure about this... I have a few questions; - Will they take into account past activities? - Will you be rewarded anything for unlocking the achievements? - When the hell is this expansion due out? I thought it was supposed to be released in May but it's only at Alpha stage?
Marty- i think its similar, but LOTRO's system is much more detailed and integrated into the game a lot better.
Looking at those screenshots it looks VERY similar. And from the brief stint I had on LotR I recall thinking it was just like the badge system from CoH too. Don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing, not in the slightest. I think most MMOs could stand to have that sort of thing - gives a player targets to try to accomplish instead of performing the endless grind. I just think credit where credits due.
Problem is that people are getting boreed with WoW after all these years. New lands and a level cap rise simply isn't enough to resist the lure of brand news experiences that AoC and WAR can offer. Hopefully this new expansion offers alot more than the last did.
If this was genuine, Blizz would have contacted CVG by now to get them to remove these images. Members of the press are not allowed to reveal content that is covered by the NDA.
Not saying that this wont happen, but simply looking at those screenshots screams "fan-made". Could be wrong....
yep, SWG did exactly the same thing last year but up to now, LotRO has been easily the best implementation of this system because it was designed in from the start.
