A psychiatrist specialising in treating those who worry about spending too time playing videogames has said pornography is more accepted than World of Warcraft.
"People feel a lot of shame around computer games," Dr. Jerald Block told The Boston Globe. "Whereas, it's socially acceptable to have a porn problem.
"As a society we understand that porn is something people do, and you can see a psychiatrist and get treated for it.
"But gaming is hard to describe to anyone else. So these people can't explain their situation to friends."
Block also says that studies incorrectly target youths and adolescents when investigating videogames.
"It's much more acceptable for kids to talk about game use, whereas adults keep it a secret. Rather than having sex, or arguing with their wife or husband, or feeding their children, these adults are playing games."
Brock claims that the question adults have to ask yourself is "How do you deal when your hard drive fails?"
According to the psychiatrist, Virginia Tech shooter Seung-Hui Cho decided against killing additional victims in favour of systematically wiping his hard drive.
"With these shooters," he says, "their last act was to turn against their own computers."

Let out a small sigh about all the porn thats just been lost and start downloading all over again?
Seriously though is he saying a non-gamer would be more disgusted if they came to my house and saw a Wii with 10 games than a box of tissues and 10 R18's?
What's the Virgina Tech shooting got to do with game addiction? I thought there was never any connection drawn between the two bar from Jack Thompson, because apparently the guy once played on "MURDER SIMULATOR: COUNTERSTRIKE." This man's opinions were instantly void when he said that.

And that's relevant how ? I fail to see the link between people who play WoW or look at porn, and some nutjob who should've been sectioned long before he went apes**t.

I wouldn't take it to such extremities as the source has, but I certainly had a hard time explaining to my friends about my addiction when I was over-coming it.

you mean Your friends wheren't playing WOW with you!?
This artical made me lol..I bet that psychiatrist has a lvl 70 paladin, either that or 70 issues of spank me weekly*
I've said it before and I'll say it again, people who know nothing about games should STFU about games.
I am insulted that some psychiatrist who thinks he knows it all suddenly thinks I'm a games "addict" and that porn and games are pretty much on the same level. I'm openly proud of being a games player, and even if people seem disinterested when I mention games or the fact I play video games it doesn't make me feel ashamed. I've been playing games since I was 8 years old and now 15 years later I'm still happy to have "video games" listed in my interests. It's a form of entertainment and it's here to stay, get over it.
It's just annoying how games are now finally going through their "controversial" stage where politicians, parents and other uninformed idiots make wild assumptions about what video games are and how they can harm "the youth". WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!! In 50 years time everybody will be playing video games, and I mean EVERYBODY. A playstation3 will be given to newborn babies just like they're made to watch Ceebeebies now.
I'd much rather watch porn than play WoW, maybe that's why i find it easier to talk about.
I've heard people discussing online gaming (Call Of Duty, Rainbow Six Vegas, etc) but I don't recall anyone starting a conversation with "So I was having a wank the other day, when..."
I can understand why people might be treated for wow addiction but not sure I understand what 'a porn problem' is apart from possibly not having any and why you would need to see a psychiatrist about it or what their treatment involves.
Although I suppose if you are so into Warcraft that it makes you download World of Whorecraft and start whacking off to naked womean with stick on ears then you might wanna think about seeing someone.

Probably because most guys wont start a conversation about wanking with a girl in the general vicinity. Trust me though, a conversation about tossing off to porn is far more common than you think it is in most male circles.

id much rather play wow than watch p0rn tbh lol my wife doesnt get it either...but my response is...turn off corrie & eastenders then if i cant spend 1hour playing wow, ur not wasting your life watching crap
Weird. You say "porn" and "WoW" like they're mutually exclusive...
I watched that musical (Avenue Q) with my good lady and another couple. It was hilarious. That song was probably the best of the bunch, but I thoroughly recommend it.

I disagree.... I like to think it's a taboo subject. And for that I am eternally grateful. The day a mate of mine starts a conversation 'so, I was having a wank the other day' is the day I drive off a bridge.
