SPOILER: Portal 2 a prequel?

Voice over job ad exposes new Portal 2 details
Valve has put out a job advertisement for a voice over role in Portal 2, which amazingly gives up some spoilerific info on the game's plot. Read no further if you don't want to spoil things for yourself.

The casting is for character Cave Johnson - the boss of Aperture (the company that developed the Portal Gun) who, according to the plot of the first game and the real-world Aperture science website, is dead. Or is he?

He seems to play a pretty big role in the next game, in which the casting call says he "goes from sidekick to principle antagonist", suggesting we could be in for a history-exposing prequel. Or that he wasn't dead in the first place?

Pic from Kotaku
The ad (from subscriber-only Breakdown Express, via Kotaku) also explains that he "starts to lose his grip on humanity as the story progresses", while confirming that the game will maintain the dark comedy tone of the original.

CVG had a nice chat with Valve's Doug Lombardi back in April, who told us of the team's lofty ambitions for the next Portal game. Check out what he had to say here.

Er ... if you don't want to give away the spoiler, maybe you should CHANGE THE FRICKIN' TITLE!!?!?!

Ahem ... sorry ... calmed down now.

Jesus christ CVG, have you hit a new level of stupid?
Waste_Manager on 10 Jun '08
Hope this doesnt end up ruining the mystery of the first Portal. That was one of the things I loved about it. Not knowing entirely what was going on.

Come on guys,

Er ... if you don't want to give away the spoiler, maybe you should CHANGE THE FRICKIN' TITLE!!?!?!

This is like saying that announcing anything as a sequel is spoiling the story!!!! CVG didn't spoil anything by saying that it is *possibly* a prequel!!!
shlobadov on 10 Jun '08
how can you spoil a sequel that will probably be a load of drivel like the first one Mad
roger4000 on 10 Jun '08
As long as the game is as unconventional and humorous as the first instalment then im happy.
MIPhantom on 10 Jun '08
humm great spoiler warning CVG. may as well just put the ending to MGS4 in a title now ?. or even the fact that he was a ghost ?. he was lukes father after all ?.
mass_terra on 10 Jun '08
Portal was mildly entertaining. It was not some gripping, emotionally engaging tour de force of story telling. Why are people getting wwokred up over knowing '2' is likely to be a prequel?

My thoughts exactly, leaving interpretation up to the player was one of my favourite elements of the game. I find that being able to speculate about what happened in the test facility is more enjoyable than being spoon fed the story. However, this is Valve we're talking about...

Good point. Im sure they'll handle it appropriately

he was lukes father after all ?.

And thats ruined Empire Strikes back thanks Terra!!

Only j/k c'mon guys it is a minor plot point, and maybe its a sequel? Games change, storys change, it is so early in development people need to get over the spoilers complaint.
