Crytek's next platform... PSP?

Job ad reveals Crysis developer's handheld intentions
Far Cry developer Crytek is famous for setting the graphical standard of the generation with its stupidly gorgeous Cry Engine 2, which powers its icy jungle FPS Crysis.

We're sure you'll be a bit surprised to see a job ad on its official website then, advertising for a PSP programmer to work in its Budapest office. We don't think they're going to get high-dynamic range lighting working on that machine...

The developer recently stated that all of its future projects after upcoming Crysis Warhead will be multi-platform, after staying PC exclusive for the entirety of its existence.

If the PSP ad is actually relevant to what its working on (and not just some sort of technology experiment at Crytek's HQ), then the obvious guess would be that the developer's perhaps planning a spin-off of its shooter series for PSP - we can't see them getting the proper FPS working on PSP somehow.

We'll of course give you a nudge when an explanation breaks out.

Perfectly suited to each other. Flashy, empty game for a flashy, soulless "console".

Maybe a 3rd person spin-off, where you shoot Physco in the head until he learns to talk like a peoper brit.

id say its more likely theyre looking at making the psp work with a ps3 project, maybe as an in game mini-map or motion detector. woah.. the new aliens game could use the psp as the famous motion detector. blip.. blip.. thatd be f**ked up crazytown

That's a very lazy criticism to level at Crysis. It actually has good (occasionally great) gameplay (for the first two thirds of it at least).

Well, provide me with an example of constructive criticism in relation to those two objects - I can guarantee it will involve the facts that Crysis is ultimately a JUST an over-hyped pretty game and that every PSP owner is a k**b. Especially if they are 8.

Well... with this article and the "MS's Entire E3 Lineup Leaked" article, you guys looks like the least credible source on the internet.

This is Crytek working on something, but it is not anything to do with Crysis. I believe they have told you, and every other media source about 100 times that Crysis will remain a PC exclusive franchise. Anything that goes multiplat will be a new IP, not related to Crysis.
I can't believe I have had to correct 2 articles in 10 minutes.

After being amazed by the graphics in "god of war chains of olympus" and "syphon filter logans shadow" on the psp. I'd love to see what wizardry crytek could do on it.
TheMullet3 on 16 Jun '08
Who knows.

Maybe they know something we don't: PSP2 perhaps containing one of those new Nvidia chips?

money grabbing whores!

I was hugely let down with the first far cry, I loved it when it was all real world settings and nice looking then I found the lab and BOOM it turns into doom3 I then lost my faith in it. Doesn't matter what they do to far cry or crysis it will always be the same to me now, going multi platfrom to recoup their loss won't work.

Except Crytek told everybody Crysis Warhead was their last PC exclusive game. So they are going to cancel the Crysis franchise or it is going multiplatform.

actually, they never said that.
Read the PC Gamer Magazine interview. If Warhead sells as well, or better than Crysis, they will be doing more PC exclusives.

Sigh, most psp games are lame; developers of that machine should feel utter shame for throwing away such an amazing piece of technology away with superficial baby games!

I expected at least one Resident Evil game, at least one quality platformer, even a Duke one!

This is just a blatant business initiative.

The psp is a quality bit of kit if the firmware is installed. My brother used his to emulated old Dos and sega games, as an ipod with built in speakers and to watch movies on on the long commute home in london. Not what sony had in mind but still great.
If you think crysis is empty then look at the modding scene and say that. There are some excellent maps being churned out and i rather enjoyed it.
