New Need for Speed uncovered

Next game called Need For Speed Undercover says EA boss
The next Need for Speed game from EA will be titled Need for Speed Undercover, EA boss man John Riccitello has confirmed.

Little-to-no gameplay details were revealed when we contact EA, but Riccitello did reveal during a recent speech that the game would feature a "very strong mission structure", and an embedded storyline, according to various reports.

Riccitello also admitted that the previous game, Pro Street, wasn't quite up to scratch (as this review will tell you), but to make sure that doesn't happen again, he went on to reveal that the series has been shifted over to a two-year development cycle, which has two separate teams working to release games biannually.

Just as Pro Street tried to take the series in a new direction, Undercover is expected to try new things with the franchise too, but our EA contact declined to reveal any further info, other than that more details will be revealed soon. Obviously.

No platforms were specified, so we'll assume it'll be on everything. Absolutely everything.

I'll do the review for it now:

Time for EA to hammer a few nails into the coffin of this tired (tyred) old series!
3/10 Generic nonsense!

A new NFS? What a surprise.

I hate these games now

Pro Street was abhorrent. Most Wanted had that nasty bullet time nonsense tacked onto it that was all the rage back then - isn't slowing things down the antithesis of the need for speed?.

The storyline idea of the new game sounds like a terrible reinvention premise too. NfS is dead.

They made a couple of mistakes with Pro Street (other than it being s**t).
Firstly, it's called Pro Street and it's not street racing. So the NFS:U crowd was disappointed.
Secondly, it featured track racing but was still an NFS game at heart, so everyone else was disappointed.

The last decent NFS was Hot Pursuit. Since then it's all been lame.

Man EA suck.

i prefered, most wanted, and carbon due to the customization of the vehicle and tuning of the engine, thats why pro street didnt do it for me,

I want the ability to buy a car, tune it, customize it and race it online, for pink slips!

The Need For Speed series doesn't really bother me either way. I remember enjoying the first 2 games, but I wasn't a huge fan.

I really liked Need For Speed: High Stakes (#4 I think) and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.

To be fair, Need For Speed: Most Wanted wasn't too bad at it's time of release either.

The Underground games were a bit annoying and Carbon and Pro Street were pretty awful.

More importantly, when are we going to get a proper next generation SSX game?
SoulChimera on 19 Jun '08
If its anything similar to Most Wanted, then sign me up. Please dont make another abysmal Carbon or Pro Street.

Indeed! Remember 'Tricky'? That was the apex of SSX, when Psymon was cool. 3 was alright, the Wii one I played for about a month p**sed me off with its slalom bollox.

I had NFS Most Wanted for a bit, it was fun as a police chase game but absolutely awful as a racing game because there was no speed without nitrous and the handling was tricky(arcade handling is supposed to be easy and fun to make you feel skilled as you weave through traffic but EA made handling a car in NFS MW more annoyingly difficult than it is in realistic games like Gran Turismo).
I prefer burnout and Project Gotham although Burnout multiplayer went down the toilet when paradise came out (there was no local multiplayer ,why?).

I agree with you lot about SSX a next gen one of those is way more important than NFS

I loved 1,2 and 3. On Tour was pretty poor and Blur was just complete crap.

DJ Atomica did hint about something coming next winter in Burnout Paradise. Surely a company like EA wouldn't pass on a money maker like this for much longer? E3 announcement perhaps?
