Star Wars: Clone Wars games detailed

Wii and DS titles coinciding with new movie this autumn
LucasArts has revealed a number of details regarding new Star Wars: The Clone Wars games, 'Lightsaber Duels' and 'Jedi Alliance' for the Wii and DS.

Wii game 'Lightsaber Duels' is predictably a lightsaber battle game that uses the Wii Remote as a lightsaber.

Whilst it's not one-to-one control, LucasArts has promised that your general movement will be mimicked on screen, providing the best Wii lightsaber experience yet.

You'll be able to participate in the most memorable duels from the animated movie and TV series, while taking control of several different characters each with their own fighting skills and unique abilities.

Comparatively, 'Jedi Alliance' for DS is a story-driven action adventure game that follows the characters from the TV show. It's fully stylus controlled, which somehow makes lightsaber combat more immersive. We're interested in how that works out.

In the game, players get to chose two Jedi from a line-up of six. One will be fully controlled by the player, with AI controlling the other. The pair will embark on a series of missions involving droids, Lightsaber wielding enemies and mini-games.

The characters have unique abilities too, and can be paired up to create different combinations to unlock new areas. Sounds a lot like Lego Star Wars to us, which isn't a bad thing.

Is it to much to ask to make one using the same motion control bit as the baseball on Wii Sports and have a totally free moving one-to-one lightsaber complete with whooom whooom sounds from the remote

That's why I got rid of my Wii, if it can't control on screen action in real time then what's the point? All your doing is replacing a button press with a motion gesture. Rolling Eyes

LAME - TRY HARDER!

after seeing the new tiger woods on ign get mainly positive feedback in terms of 1-1 control this seems like a step backwards.

i have a few problems with this game already;

no.1: the art style. while it does indeed look like the cartoons,it's not really what was wanted and is frankly pig f**king ugly. try something a bit more realistic lucasarts,failing that hire a decent art team.

no.2: viewpoint. as soon as the wii remote was announced i,like many other gamers,immediately thought of a lightsabre sim as a perfect fit. my thinking was that it should be 1st person,like oblivion,with sword on the remote but force powers (push,throw,choke etc..) on the nunchuck. major f**k up on this one lucasarts.

no.3: inaccurate motion control. no excuse for this one i'm afraid. 1-1 CAN be done but that would take time. considering that this is a cash... sorry,tie in with the new clone wars cartoon and HAS to launch within a certain timeframe-time's one thing this game isn't gonna get.

the search for the holy grail of star wars games continues...
