A developer behind the game at the centre of a plagiarism row has said that the title was their entire creation.
Laurence Francis, one of the trio behind Limbo of the Lost developer Majestic Studios, made the claim to his local paper in an interview on May 2.
"Between the three of us we researched, wrote, designed, animated, scripted and developed the whole game from home," he said.
The allegations of plagiarism started when a writer noticed similarities between the title and Oblivion.
Since then, gamers have found hundreds of other instances that seem all-too familiar. Comparisons have been made to Thief 3, UT2004, WoW, Vampire: Bloodlines and even Crysis.
Distributor Tri Synergy has pulled the game from shelves and has said it's waiting for a response from Majestic Studios. So far, the development company has been unavailable for comment.
(You see what I did there, instead of contesting what you said, because I made it, I just quoted you....Or is this way too subtle for people to understand? If anyone wants a more detailed explanation of the itorny here, pm me) But, seriously, how Del Boy do they look??!!
Christ CVG, you're not on the ball with this one. Everyone whose been following the controversy will have happened upon that link days ago.
And f**k you for the clear implication that this was said after the controversy.
A game similar to other games? Wow, that is unheard of!
No, sorry, you're way off the mark. They have outright used screenshots of other games for backgrounds, and nicked other art assets from all over the place.
What they mean is they made the plagiarised versions themselves. It's entirely possible they took each location and just created a replica in a 3d graphics program.
Now there's a question - does that count as theft? I bet that'll be a tough one to call either way.

No, it really isn't. Just look at the comparison shots. In one of the screens they lifted from Oblivion, there's even a portrait of the Count of Skingrad (or whoever - an oblivion character anyway) that they didn't even bother to photoshop out.
The body of evidence is irrefutable. They blatantly used screenshots from other games, and nicked art assets too. There is simply no room for the benefit of the doubt.
But at the same time you've got to salute their bare faced cheek to pull a stroke like this in the first place. I'd love to know if they were "fronted" any cash or what they've made out of it prior to going AWOL!

Borges once wrote a story about a guy who rewrote Don Quixote from scratch, word for word.

Nah, it's not similar mate, it's identical.
You can't pass that off as anything other than a direct copy - even the smallest details like the pattern of the lead on the window and the items on the shelves are exactly the same...
cjw101 is right, even the books and patterns of the bricks are exactly the same, if you did that yourself it would be almost impossible to get them that close in looks.
And CVg, get your act together, you article implied that the dev said the game was his AFTER the controversy, when in fact that article is from before.

Not quite. This is a 'point and click' adventure game. I seem to recall that Oblivion actually moved the scenery around the place when you moved the mouse...
