Call of Duty 6 goes sci-fi?

That's what the internet is saying...
Ahead of this weekend's Call of Duty: World at War reveal, via Xbox Live Marketplace, comes a tasty little rumour hinting that the COD4 developer's next game will be a bit on the science fiction side.

Take it with a pinch of salt for the time being but an insider from Infinity Ward is reported to have said, "we are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3."

We're not sure how much into the future we're talking here and we hope we're not going to be shooting little green men or vampires on Mars. We've done a little digging only to be greeted by blank looks, which doesn't actually rule anything out in our experience. But it doesn't confirm anything either.

Usually we wouldn't go for such randomness, but we've got a funny feeling about this one. More soon maybe...?

Hell why not! anythings got be better then WWII again!
dangermou5e on 21 Jun '08
If this turns out to be true, then an 'Area 51 done right' game sounds good to me. Sort of a Crysis meets CoD4 (which I guess Area51 was in a shockingly sh*t way) could be a winner as long as it's not too over the top. Wink
BYDO on 21 Jun '08
I was hopeing they would do a sci-fi eventually, i was'nt expecting it though, You can count me as happyfied.
Dark_Prophet on 21 Jun '08
Hmm, I'm a bit skeptical.

I dunno, if it is true, it depends how they do it - I don't particularly think BF2142 was amazing.

Couldn't agree more.
ANYTHING > WWII
theideal on 21 Jun '08
Hopefully they can add a bit of horror to it Cool
Xdwardo on 21 Jun '08
Well i'm pretty sure IW will be working on a new project (They were hiring), and IW have yet to make a bad game. Lets just hope its not going to be too generic.
NG_21 on 21 Jun '08
I suppose they were always going to make Sci-fi sooner or later, you can only go so far with a genre, but i dont particularly want to go Sci-fi
Midjet on 21 Jun '08
I can actually see IW going down this route. I imagine though, that it would be near-future and not *peow peow* laser-based weapons - like Halo.

You'll no doubt still see alot of hot lead flying about.
ginsin on 21 Jun '08
CoD5 is not even out and we are already talking about CoD6... Hiro Nakamura, eat that!
newtoneprods on 21 Jun '08
the thing is that it set in the future means you have to planets or countries you dont really care about at war, you never heard of these places so it loses it realism..

thats just my opinion
4eyed Snake on 21 Jun '08
This title should read 'Ok, we all know COD5 is going to be s**t compared to COD4, so we'll start speculating about COD6 instead.'
lwill on 21 Jun '08
Call of Duly 6 goes sci-fi?

PLEASE GOD NO !!!.

*Prays*
DAEDALUS79 on 21 Jun '08

Bring on the ray guns 'n that...

justforkicks101 on 21 Jun '08

Haven't you played Mass Effect, or the first Kotor? I cared more about them than what I was doing in any CoD game.

you never heard of these places so it loses it realism.

Again, Mass Effect, just because you're in an imaginary place doesn't make the fighting any less intense.

Personally, I'd love to have a planet-hopping CoD. It would probably be something like Quake 4, only much, much better.
JoWoo on 21 Jun '08
Hopefully they can show Free Radical how Haze SHOULD have been made.

If its gonna be Sci Fi, I would imagine it would be in a similar mould to Haze.
fanboy on 21 Jun '08
Pfft, I'm so sick of shooting aliens and mutants and what not.

And Nazis, also very tired of Nazis as well.

Kittens, we should shoot kittens.
Apoca1yps0 on 21 Jun '08
The article opnly says that IW are working on a (near?) futuristic game. I doubt very much that this will have COD branding on it.

I dont mind IW working on a futuristic FPS, as long as they make it along side COD6: 'Naam Warfare
nuggit3000 on 21 Jun '08
I've with you on that, a decent vietnam film done in the way of Apocalypse Now is really called for!!

hahahahaha yea!! now this guy knows what would sell

you cant go wrong with kittens...

and PLEASE who ever goes, "but thats just my opinion", JUST STOP, of course it f**king is !! STOP pointing out the obveous !! arrr
SleepySheep28 on 21 Jun '08
To be honest, I'd be suprised if it was announced at E3, it seems unlikely that Activision would allow IW to rain of Treyarch's (already rather damp) parade.
Samatic on 21 Jun '08
Near future, as in GRAW esq could be cool, but sci fi, no f**king way!!!
funkyjack on 21 Jun '08
Near future, as in GRAW esq could be cool, but sci fi, no f**king way!!!

I totally agree a near future style shooter for COD6 would be awesome but a sci-fi...that just won't work for a COD game. I don't mind them doing a sci-fi game, as long as they don't use the COD franchise to do it.
CrippledHooba on 21 Jun '08
Call of Halo 6?

Not for me thanks!!
Barca Azul on 21 Jun '08
Slow news day? C'mon you wan't rumors from "IW insiders" just go play CoD4. Everyone's an insider on there, more than happy to tell you about the new weapons pack.
CopperheadTM on 22 Jun '08
i want a propr sci fi game - you fly around galaxies to different planets- land and then do missions - it would be great - bascially halo but more open or gta in space
dandoc2 on 22 Jun '08

I know where you're coming from, but thanks to some of the people on the internet, if you don't put it everyone creates a big f**king - hoo ha about it and always somehow manage to link it with religion... or knife crime.

cod6 to be sci fi? sounds good to me Smile
HammersUK on 22 Jun '08
call of duly? never heard of that before! i have heard of call of DUTY though

Looks at l on keyboard, looks at t....

Its not even an understandable typo...
milky_joe on 22 Jun '08
ohfohfowhfo\adjj;l\kad, oh, thats better. i don't think i could stomach IW f**king up their reputation with something so ambitious as making COD in the future on other planets. Halo sucks and so will this.

now if we're talking set in 2010 when Korea make a dust ball of the world and the SAS have to stop Kim Jong Ill in the head from doing so. that i would like to see.

then you'd get the US with their new storm trouper style battle armour (released 2014) coming in and claiming all the glory, as only the US can.

rant. over.
Slacher007 on 22 Jun '08
probs would work Smile
not sure how those quotes when you die would work though? seems abit almost disrespectful to talk about people giving their lives and fighting aliens in space...
sexycaptaindave on 22 Jun '08
please be a good BF2142 era game! that doesnt get old quickly like bf2142!
Fleisch on 22 Jun '08
All i can say is i've seen ten years into the future, and i can tell you that the penguins are p**sed. We've totally melted their habitat, and in 2018 they rise up and attempt to overthrow us. Infinity Ward are onto something here, beware the black and white ones.
bevoboro on 23 Jun '08
Brilliant! I sincerely hope that this particular rumour is true. A sci-fi COD = awesome!
wudragon on 23 Jun '08
Firstly I really don't think they'd do this and secondly:

When the first news of COD:WAW was released and someone carelessly put the words "Alien Force" in the press releases which was misunderstood to mean "Aliens" by some of the less bright internet users (I couldn't even start on those maths), everyone went nuts posting comments about what a terrible thing that would be for the COD franchise...

Now that someone suggests Infinity Ward might do it we get a load of posts saying "Yeah, that would be cool!" and "Better than WWII" etc etc.

What a bunch of hypocrites! Are any of you going to be kneeling outside Infinity Ward's offices with your mouths open and a T-Shirt saying "GROUPIE - Will give head for preview"?
Random Hangman on 23 Jun '08
But the 'insiders' didn't even mention that it could be COD6...

All that was said was "a new sci-fi title".

After all this, it'll probably be announced that it's another completely random game IW is working on.
Rebekah on 24 Jun '08
well i think this is just stupid the only way this could be made good is if they actually have it a little while in the future and make new and improved weps like a better version of the famous p90 for example and not have it to far into the future because that would just make it stupid and i would probly not buy it if they went to far with this one. and can people stop saying that call of duty 5 in world war 2 is bad please? because its good especially if they keep to normal call of duty online play i really dont care and ww2 weps and equipment are the basis of our modern technology so i cant wait to buy this game!(call of duty 5) not sure on number 6 though
KingOfSparta92 on 25 Jun '08
