PS3 Video Store: Summer release confirmed

Kaz Hirai has confirmed that Sony will launch the video download service on PS3 in US in Summer.

No further details, like pricing plans, were announced, and Hirai added that Europe and Japan will get the service at "later dates", according to the Yahoo report.

Also, a document found tucked away on Sony's Global Headquarters website contains the first proper screenshots of the PS3 video downloads service.

It doesn't look particularly radical (see the screenshot to the right) - it looks like a new page will simply be added to the current PS Store to accommodate the video downloads.

The document also details PSN stats, revealing that 9.8 million PSN accounts have been registered worldwide, those having downloaded 86 peta bytes of data which it notes in the equivalent of 17 million single-layer DVDs. Which we note is a lot.

That's a lot of 1s and 0s.
