Mega Man 9 confirmed for WiiWare

Capcom goes old school with a classic
American magazine Nintendo Power has revealed that Capcom is working on a brand new instalment in the Mega Man series for WiiWare.

Simply titled Mega Man 9, the game is being developed to mimic the visual style of the first Mega Man games released on the NES. The music and cut scenes will also be similarly styled.

Unsurprisingly, the game will be played by turning the Wii Remote on its side and using it essentially like an old digital controller.

According to Mega Man character designer Keiji Inafune, this is all intentional. Speaking to Nintendo Power, he said: "The moment you've been waiting for is here! We're not just giving you Mega Man 9, we're giving you a new NES game. This is a game that brings back the fun of the old games, and I hope you all enjoy it!"

No release date has been set yet, but we'd bet on seeing it this year.

So they won't be putting TOO much effort into it then? Wink

I hope it doesn't look too dated, as a new WiiWare game it shouldn't look like a retro title that should be in the Virtual Console section.

I personally think the 'Mega Man Powered Up' style in the PSP game from 2006 would really suit the WiiWare look.

I am. I really enjoyed the NES Mega mans and consider them the best in the series, went down hill for me after that. So a sequel inkeeping with the simplistic charm of the NES classics is what i hoped would come to Wiiware.
