Cryptic to unveil Star Trek MMO on July 27?

Cryptic Studios looks set to unveil its own version of Star Trek Online on July 27, if a countdown clock on its official website is anything to go by.

The title was originally in development at Perpetual Entertainment, but work closed down in January when the team was laid off.

It was reported that the title had been transferred to another developer and in March rumours arose that Cryptic Studios had taken the title over.

Now it seems that those rumours are correct, as a countdown timer has appeared on Cryptic's official website that uses a piece of Perpetual's Star Trek Online concept art as a background image.

The timer will expose the secret on July 27, if our mathematics is right. Check back then to see what the Alpha Quadrant looks like online.

I thought there already was a Star Trek MMO? - didn't it offer gradual ageing of your character, or something?

I wonder if you'll be able to meet alien life forms that speak with perfect American accents?

Being that there isn't any money as such for peeps in the Federation (other than Latinum *spelling?*) and pretty much the only weapons are Phasers/Rifles, I can't see this being a whole lotta joy. Unless you get to play as Klingons... but then the happiness factor would still probably be nil and I'd throw my hapless inverted c**thead alien into the nearest sun.

I am attempting to reserve judgement methinketh... but ifeth noteth working... eth.

I have also just managed to get ahold of Bridge Commander and plan on playing through it sometime soon though :SPANK:
