2K: "Possible redundancies" at Venom

Take Two has released a statement on the closure of Rocky Legends and Don King's Prizefighter dev Venom Games (which we reported yesterday), stating that it's in consultation with the employees.

"We are assessing the role of Venom Games in Take-Two's overall global studio system and are in a consultation with the employees of Venom in relation to possible redundancies at the studio," a Take-Two spokesperson told CVG.

"No final decision will be made until after the consultation with employees," the statement continued.

The Newcastle-based developer was founded back in 2003 and has been responsible for the likes of Rocky: Legends on Xbox and PS2 and the Xbox 360 version of Prey. The studio was formed following the closure of Rage Newcastle and was later acquired by Take Two in 2004 for a reported $1.295m.

CVG received word earlier this week that Venom Games is to close it doors at the end of the month and employees have also been notified.

Venom recently finished work on the 360 version of Don King's Prizefighter, which has arrived to disappointing reviews. More as we get it.

Hope they find a way to avoid such drastic action. Redundancies of permanent staff should only ever be an act of desperation, NOT an operational convenience.
