Ex-Nintendo Europe boss David Gosen, now marketing exec at Microsoft, has teased the "fantastic surprises" set to be revealed at this month's E3 show in Los Angeles. Is that 360 Wii Remote finally coming out of the closet?
Speaking to trade mag MCV, Gosen said to expect "game-changing" Xbox news at the event, which kicks off with the company's press conference on July 14.
"It would be churlish of me to ruin the fantastic surprises awaiting everybody at E3," Gosen told MCV. "Clearly we'll use that to make a number of announcements.
"We place a huge amount of importance on R&D and innovation. We're always working on new things. And you'll continue to hear lots of things from us that we believe to be game-changing. But you'll just have to wait for those to be officially announced by us."
Of course we're hoping the "fantastic" surprises aren't the ones that leaked all over the internet last month, including Forza 3, Microsoft's answer to SingStar and those Xbox Miis.
Rumours pointing at an Xbox 360 take on the Wii Remote also won't die, but Gosen's quick to stamp those down a bit: "We know it is all about simplicity in the mass market. We can do that without a controller - we can do that with today's controller," he said.
"For me, casual gaming is really a mindset rather than a genre. It's got to be easy to play a difficult to master," Gosen added. "Games studios can design games that are appealing to everyone without getting to the lowest common denominator."
MS nedd to do some market research and ask the console owners what they would want. chances are that some of the xbox360 or original xbox owners would also own a wii so have a xbox copy isn't something that seems that good. i know for a fact, i have a xbox360 and a Wii and i wouldn't really want to see a copy of what nintendo have. Maybe something bigger that would win back some of the lost fan of their console.
What with it being Summer now (no Sun in Scotland though) and this time of year generally being pretty slow as far as news stories goes, I can see a trend developing where in the run up to E3 were going to get a lot of suits telling us how their going to change the face of gaming as we know it, this guy isnt the first and wont be the last.
It's going to be a "game changing" announcement! If it's the Wii remote rip off someone in the M$ PR machine is going to look like a right prat. I would really like to see them releasing something revolutionary (Minority Report style interactive screen etc) but can't see it happening. This generation of consoles have all been a bit of a let down.
It's clearly not going to be something radical like touch screen or anything like that, as this generation of hardware is set. The most likely announcement is going to be about new or upcoming games, maybe not too exciting to some of you but after all, surely that's the most important thing.

I have not been inspired to buy one yet. I will get a Wii when it has a few more titles.
Even the best current gen software seems a bit half hearted. Often something that would have appeared on PC last generation. I am sure it will have a defining moment. But thus far seems a bit stale. Development costs seem to play a huge factor in this. I think 360 started off brightly...Capcom had a couple of new IPs. Too many FPS.

I don't think it'll be motion sensing tech. This "MAY" have some foundation but i suspect it's R&D for the next generation more than this one.
It may be some kind of hand-held but I suspect it's games that'll be announced. It maybe Alan Wake but surely if MS are going to make a big deal of it it should be so far un-announced games?

i would be happy if final fantasy and metal gear were announced for the PS3,it isnt going to happen,and i have a PS3 anyway,but if it did happen i think my PS3 would be sold,i just dont play on it as much as the 360(when i do play on it,most of the time its PS2 titles)
