Dead Rising 2: The best PR response ever?

Capcom comments on not commenting on Dead Rising rumours. No comment
It seems that persistent internet rumours pointing to a possible Dead Rising sequel - just like the zombies - won't die. But at least we've got more than usual PR response...

Here's what Capcom's UK office had to say (or not) on the sequel rumours:

"We don't comment on speculation and rumour. And you know we don't comment on speculation and rumour. So why are you asking me to comment on speculation and rumour?

"I should think that our policy on speculation and rumour is fairly well known by now and as such, any request by you for me to comment on speculation and rumour will result in no comment. So no comment, because this is purely speculation and rumour."

Quite clear. We won't be asking again...

The latest reports on the supposed sequel cropped up last night, this time speculating that the zombie-thwomping follow-up moves from a mid-America shopping mall over to glitzy Las Vegas. Sounds like a good change to us.

Just like word that the sequel is coming, rumours that development has moved outside of Capcom's Japanese HQ over to a US studio also refuse to die. If 'sources' are to be believed, Blue Castle Games, the dev that did 'The Bigs' for 2K, is in charge.

Capcom confirmed its E3 lineup yesterday, including word that a secret game called 'Flock' will make it's debut at the show. No sign of Dead Rising, though.

Let's see what other responses we can get from publishers who aren't allowed to say anything whe we call them up. Can any beat Capcom?

That's you guys told then, huh?

Any chance that Flock could be DR2? Because y'know, flock... crowd of zombies. Sheep, brainless. Zombies, brainless. It's not entirely out of the question.

LOL beat me to the punch, those are my thoughts exactly!

Isn't there a zombie movie with flock in the title????.... I'll get the first flock puns in:

"oh no its those flocking zombies again!"

"Capcom tell CVG to flock off"

...etc

If they are making a sequel, I hope they improve on the the saves, remove that utterly retarded time limit and don't include s**tty goddamn bosses.

Those 3 rather major flaws ruined and otherwise cool game.

Whereas I thought they all added to the replay value and didn't mind them at all.

Now the supposed A.I is a different matter!

Loved the original, its my most played game this Gen so hope a sequels in the works.

I really dont care where this game is set.I just want it to be made.Adjust the saves which i didn't have much of a problem with, but did restrict gameplay a hell of a lot.

Have a better aiming system as well as car handling.Ooh and a bigger section involving a car....or some kind of homemade supposedly impenetrable tank type thing(ala Dawn of the Dead remake)

I agree DR2 needs some serious changes. I was so disappointed by the first one. I hated it. It's as if they decided the base game mechanics were too fun, so they thought of ways to de-fun the game. Here is a lesson for Capcom:

SadNOT FUNCrying or Very sad
Limit the save system so if players save at the wrong time, they are quite simply screwed. Impose time limits on every mission so people have to rush through these highly detailed environments Capcom has created, giving them no time to discover new areas or weapons, or even time to stop and kill things in some cases. Add whiny, idiotic, suicidal side-characters that must be rescued on another time limit. Have the game interrupt the player every few minutes, in the worst possible situations, by having another character call them.

SmileFUNRazz
A central character gives the player a mission. The player may complete it in their own time. Nobody ever calls them, unless as part of a cutscene (a short one! *shakes fist*). When they finish a mission, allow them a chance to explore on their way back to receive another. Allow them to save at their leisure. When they are ready, not when the game thinks they should be, they will make their way back to the aforementioned central character to get another mission.

Basically structure the missions like GTA, or even give it a linear story. Whatever, just don't do what you did last time. Also, I'd like it on PS3. Cheers Capcom.

But just by answering the question means that they have commented on speculation and rumour. Razz

I'd poo myself if a Dead Rising sequel was announced...though I still wouldn't comment on speculation or rumour

I liked many of the things that you didn't. The boss fights were great by the way. As was rescuing shoppers... especially when you armed the shoppers.

That was great, but I don't think that was regarded as an issue anyway. What was was the stupid AI - the people following you around were morons, and the cause of as much frustration as the time limits.

Dead Rising was brilliant, it really was. IMO, it was the closest a game has come to feeling like a zombie movie (possibly due to the mall setting, admittedly). However, it had a number of ridiculously annoying flaws which just served to infuriate the user. Why can I only have one save per save device? In fact, the save system itself needs a complete overhall. I can see why they put restrictions in their, but that save system was more like a book mark rather than a permanent record.

The phone was a PITA too - jump, get hit, attack, whatever and you hang up on the caller. Like, why? Give us a hands free blue tooth set up next time se was can carry on defending/running whilst talking.

Other than that, I wouldn't change much at all. It'd be awesome if it was set in a GTA-esque town/city (come on, who WOULDN'T like that?), but really, I don't mind where it's set...

Lets just hope it happens eh?
