Guitar Hero's days could be numbered as Konami confirms its videogame take on the scene, Rock Revolution, will hit stores in Q1 2009 for PS3, 360, Wii and DS.
Having created the cult arrow-stomping series known worldwide as Dance Dance Revolution (or Dancing Stage over here), Konami quite rightly refers to itself as "arguably the originator of the 'rhythm action' genre".
Konami says that Rock Revolution will be "the most advanced music title for any format," with "the most authentic drum kit imaginable", as well as bass and lead guitar peripherals.
It'll boast 40 tracks, competitive and co-op online play and the option to "freeform" your own tracks and record them onto your console. Song packs for the PS3 and 360 versions are also planned to follow the game's release.
The Wii version has a few unique touches, too, allowing for "Air Guitar and Air Drum play via the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, while the motion-sensitive nature of the hardware can also reward the user for rock star-like behaviour in pulling off scissor kicks or instrument abuse during the course of a performance."
A version bound for the DS will boast touch screen play and 20 tracks. It looks to work in much the same way as Guitar Hero - see for yourself in shots below.
Wait, hold the phone... Does the Wii not get the cool peripherals? That better not be the case.
Is this really going to be able to compete with Rock Band (the sequel of which will be out in a few short months) and Guitar Hero: World Tour. Especially as it 'boasts' 40 tracks, which is half as many as RB for a start.
