E3: Pikmin Wii confirmed

Miyamoto says it's in the works but nothing else...
Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that a version of Pikmin is in the works for Wii.

At a Nintendo developer roundtable conference yesterday, the designer said that Pikmin was on the way to Wii. Literally, he just said: "We're making Pikmin." That is all.

In our eyes, that makes it as official as the Zelda and Mario Wii titles that we know are in the works.

Still, it's nice to hear that Nintendo is at developing some of the things we were hoping to see at E3.

So, time to hope and pray for an unveiling at GDC and Leipzig, then.

And that automatically makes up for the massive disappointment that was the sales conference. Yep. Rolling Eyes

Perhaps if I liked Pikmin, I'd be more excited.

Sweet, I knew they would bring us some good stuff, I mean, how can they show games or even talk about them when it's not even ready for it? Last year they announced nothing, then later on, oh look, we have Mario Kart on the way, here's the screens and in a private conference, look again, Sonic in Brawl.

Good on them for making some decent games, so we've got a game developed by the mario team, a Zelda game, Animal Crossing and Pikmin. That's 4 decent games from one developer alone which is also trying to create a storage device, better online components and a peripheral to enhance the wiimote.

People complain so much, winge and moan, but in the end you don't see any other company developing as much as they do. Sony and MS develop consoles, additional components and have very little games coming from them.
3rd Party is something different, as we see most of their games come from 3rd party. Not criticizing them or anything but it's dumb to say that Nintendo aren't doing anything or not caring for their Core gamers.

Then get out of the Pikmin thread you nob.
philgreaaaaaaaat on 17 Jul '08
Well, that's better than a kick to the head.
I'd still prefer Pilot Wings though. It's like their forgotten franchise...
_Marty_ on 17 Jul '08
OK, I forgive Nintendo over the rest of thier crappy show as this is the main thing I wanted to hear about. A trailer would be nice but just knowing they are making it makes it very, very happy. Razz

HOORAH!
A reason to keep my Wii.

Cool! I am greedy though, I still want more Smile
kimoak on 17 Jul '08
What?! They didn't even go as far as showing a logo á la GTA?!?

Maddness.

Yes, it's nice to know Pikmin is coming. For the original is great stuff. But then again. We know Rockstar are making another fully fledged GTA. But saying and showing are very different things. And we've not seen much this E3.
juno_blaster on 17 Jul '08
This is what I'm talking about guys. Nintendo's in-house teams at work on 'proper' games. Pikmin will never be a system seller, but it was possibly my favourite new franchise from the previous generation of consoles and a game I could imagine being totally suited to Wii's pointer control.

Anyone who thought that the Mario and Zelda teams were at work on mini-game compendiums were faithless and impatient.
carterlink on 17 Jul '08
Him just saying "We're making Pikmin" doesn't cancel out the possibility of seeing a version on DS now does it CVG? Rolling Eyes
dark_gamer on 17 Jul '08
Nintendo isn't at Leipzig this year, and I'd be amazed if anything happened at GDC. TGS is a far better bet for anything new, and even then I wouldn't bet on it.

Agreed, I think the problem here is we expect so much from Nintendo these days. Don't forget we are only 17 months into the Wii's lifespan and already have an Epic 40+ hours Zelda, a true next-gen sequel to Mario 64 with the amazing Galaxy, an online Mario Karts, the third Metroid Prime and the brilliant Smash Bros Brawl. That's five huge titles just from Nintendo, then include their other games Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Big Brain Academy, WarioWare, Super Paper Mario, Excite Truck, Mario Strikers, Battalion Wars 2, Endless Ocean.. and with confirmed titles like Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, Animal Crossing, Mario Super Sluggers, Pikmin 3, Disaster: Day of Crisis the future isn't that spbottom either.

Chances are Nintendo will release Punch Out, Pilot Wings, Star Fox, a true next-gen Zelda, Kid Icarus at some stage too. Yes the show was cringe worthy and aimed at the casual market, but this is what has made the Wii a success. Without them maybe Nintendo would have been in Sega's position. Nintendo learnt from the Game Cube that trying to compete directly with Microsoft and Sony meant they they came in last, by doing something completely different they avoided what would have been their ultimate fail console.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm very happy that Animal Crossing was shown, but this is the one game that I've been desperate for! Pikmin is one of my favourite franchises, such addicitive gameplay! I can't wait for this.

The graphics on the original still look pretty good today, so I can't wait to see what they do with this! The controls would be perfect, and I can't wait to see how they utilise the Wii's online capabilities. Imagine a Pikmin Wars mmo...
AlbertStoots on 17 Jul '08
Good! I loved the first one, although i never got my hands on the second. This is a game that could really work well with the WiiMote!
gazza_be on 17 Jul '08
This repairs a fair amount of the damage from the conference, but it would have been nice to see something of it...

Me too, I played the first one it was pretty good, but it does not deserve a third instalment!

Laughing

The Nintendo conference was dreadful for a few reasons (such as lack of attention to decent third party support like 'The Conduit'), although anyone who thinks that they have forgotten how to make core games now are simply deluding themselves.

Pikmin 2 was far superior. Of course one of the most successful and endearing console strategy games deserves a third installment!

Agreed, anyone who doesn't love Pikmin is WRONG.

So it's some time off then....
That isn't saving Nintendo's E3 is it.
almanac2015 on 17 Jul '08
Why the hell wasn't this in Nintendo's E3 conference? MS tried (albeit stupidly) with Lips and such in order to strike a balance between casual and core gamers, whereas Ninty were 99% casual - leaving out such information as this! Stupid move.
level_up on 17 Jul '08
I love Nintendo and have always stuck up for them in the past but i was very disappointed with the press conference. In fact, it was terrible. Though the new Wii motion thing looks good and now we know Pikmin is being made, it makes up for an overall poor showing.

Keep it up Nintendo, you're doing ok right now but there's been a slight blip this past few months.
gbenlcfc on 17 Jul '08

Some time off? So is the vast majority of Sony and Microsoft releases, but that doesn't stop them pandering to the media with pre-rendered, non-gameplay film trailers.
carterlink on 17 Jul '08
Uhhh for most ppl who are complaining here, Shigsy made a statement that they won't reveal hardcore games at E3 anymore, because they will use that media attention for hardware, etc.

I'll wait until they make a private conference and issue some insane games out there and make most ppl who are whining shut the hell up. Don't Remember Sony or MS talk about any decent games made by THEMSELVES sure, 3rd party, but what are they doing? Nintendo has decent 3rd party games out there too, how come no one noticed? Fatal frame, the Conduit, Madworld, captain rainbow, CoD 5 and a few others that i can't remember atm, but that you must know.

So really? what are people p**sed at? Out of the 3 Nintendo had more to show and will have more at their private conference or another Expo.
Everyone knows how bad E3 has gone maybe Nintendo had their reasons to not make any major announcements there anyways. Time will tell.
Andrezao on 18 Jul '08
its pretty stupid that they're revealing all the games gamers wanted AFTER e3.
Ayjay100 on 18 Jul '08
with waggle no doubt...
