E3: WaveRace devs on Wii Sports Jet Ski

Same director and programmer on board
Nintendo designers Katsuya Eguchi and Shigeru Miyamoto have revealed that a number of the original WaveRace team is working on the Jet Ski game included in Wii Sports Resort.

During Nintendo's private developer conference held in E3 last night, GameSpot reports that the pair were asked about the similarities between Jet Ski and WaveRace.

Miyamoto confirmed they have staff from the original team on the project, whilst Eguchi, who directed WaveRace, added that the programmer in charge of the motion in Jet Ski is the same one from WaveRace 64.

Eguchi stated that he's going to work with the new developers to make a game that surpasses the N64 title. We'd hope so too, how old is WaveRace now?

When asked whether fans could expect an actual sequel, Miyamoto said he couldn't talk about it, but thought that the Jet Ski mode in Wii Sports Resort will satisfy gamers with its depth.

If they put lots of depth in this game I'll be happy. Would prefer an actual WaveRace standalone tbh. We'll see how good it really is in time I guess.

Is that a yes or a no? What is the point in these conferences if people are not even going to give us any info?
And who honestly thinks a wii sports game will have depth. Maybe Reggie but thats about it.

Old it might be, but Waverace 64's analogue control of speeding through water and being moved about by surf has never been bettered, by its sequel or any others.

Wish people would stop sounding so bleeding cynical and look forward to something from its orignal programmers. Who's to say it won't be a properly realised game in its own right?

True, never did enjoy Blue Storm with its twitchy controls and ridiculously high difficulty level, but this could be a return to form. The original Wave Race has a magic about it, the fun is in it's simplicity and the water physics. When I saw Wii Resort's Jet Ski game it was like seeing the true sequel to Wave Race 64. (WR: Blue Storm being the Mario Sunshine of the series)

If they give us 6 - 8 tracks, stunt mode, 3 difficulty levels and an online option, then we wouldn't need another Wave Race title.

Maybe they will add in some flight mode,
remember when wii sports was annouced, they only confirmed like 2 or 3 games, then annouced the others running up to launch.
Hopefully wii sports 2 will have more than 3 games.

And hopefully each game will have more depth than the last title.
New gamers are now getting to grips with it enough to try the next level of gaming.
