Konami: Currently "no solution" for MGO disaster

Gene update causes mayhem, Konami struggling to find a fix
In the latest of a string of online gaming-related disasters for Konami, the Japanese company has admitted it currently has "no permanent solution" to ongoing problems with the Metal Gear Online servers.

"Heavy server load" has buckled Konami's systems since the Metal Gear Online Gene Expansion went live on July 17, as gamers rushed online to get in on the action.

Features such as log-in, the MGO reward shop, ranking display, online help, and the community support page have all been on the blink. Payments made through the site have also been wrongly processed, forcing Konami to refund accounts.

A fuller, and shockingly long, list of the issues experienced have been posted in an official report, in which Konami says: "We have been taking numerous corrective measures since the problems initially started, but unfortunately there are no permanent solutions we can announce at this present moment."

And to think this game had a beta test...

Knew this was going to happen ever since Konami said they weren't going to use PSN ID's...

I mean not only is the PSN network there to be used, but also the PSN Store... yet Konami decided they knew best.

And know we all know how that turned out.

Metal Gear game online for me was naff, i love MGS games but i didn't like the MGO it just doesnt work.
But anyway, this what happens when a software company gets involved in Hardware....ooops.

And to think this game had a beta test...

...and exactly the same happened to that. It's like they just forgot that their servers can't cope. Either that or they weren't really expecting that many people to play MGO Rolling Eyes
jayson_90210 on 21 Jul '08
Thought the game was pretty awful online anyway, thats before taking into account the lag issues it had.
DAEDALUS79 on 21 Jul '08
Can't see many people investing in the add-on then. And the Konami servers have always been terribly slow.
Poor show, Konami, especially when you consider MGS being such a popular game.
Mark240473 on 21 Jul '08
I just hope it doesn't put other devs off of bringing other online games to consoles - be they MMOs or otherwise.
_Marty_ on 21 Jul '08
To all those people that said "Well of course there are problems its a beta"
I say TOLD YOU SO HAHA lol
Konami can't DO online...
They over complicate things and it back fires every time.

I'd like to say to everyone that had ago at me for pointing out bugs and a sense of disappointment this:
I knew this was coming as did the other 50% who are not blinded by a fanboyistic nature.

I have no faith in konami and I won't have ever again.
Zedfragg on 21 Jul '08
Keep trying and you'll get it, thats what im told anyway.

Most people on the MGS forums have managed to get it. Im just waiting till pay day
spud-o on 21 Jul '08
What are these bugs, lag issues and s**t your talking about. Ive had no problems what so ever. Im a regular on the MGS boards aswell and there is hardly any moaning about MGO apart from the odd asswipe. Stop speaking out your rectum and go enjoy the best online game since CoD.
spud-o on 21 Jul '08
ill be honest look as tho im the only one here who still enjoys it and plays it religiously since the update tho the internet connections have been terrible, ive never had a problem with mine but cus others are messin up so much i end up usin a full clip of ammo at sum1's head before it recognises it as a headshot i hope they fix it soon!

there was even a moment where konami blocked my IP for an hour because i "tried to accsess the reward shop" ... rewards just arnt what they used to be!

im back to playin MGS4 now still as good as ever, didnt reaslise how breif it was without the cutscenes tho, i cud honestly play this again and a again, i never thought i would look at GTA4 multiplayer n go "... nah" best thing about GTA multiplayer now is GTA race n thats about it.
mol_e on 21 Jul '08
Perhaps if they hadn't spent all their time and budget producing stupidly long cut scenes they might have had the time and budget to invest in - oh you know - actual gameplay. But who cares? After all, at least those cutscenes look great...

...and I suppose the length of the cutscenes will increase the longevity of the game a lot more than a solid online experience would too... Rolling Eyes

mol_e is this just happening on the new levels? I was on the solidus server all yesterday and had no problems what so ever. I havn't had the expansion yet because im skint but will get it this thursday.
spud-o on 21 Jul '08
Hahaha, Konami have online problems? No way!

MGO is the best online game out there at the minute. So what if it has lag problems even COD4 had lag problems for me.
Fowler90 on 21 Jul '08
I prefer it to TF2..havnt played CoD or BF Bad Company, but im well up for BF....too expensive at the moment though. Sad
hmmm may go trade in some games tomorrow....assassins creed, ninja gaiden..hmmm
jazzy_p on 21 Jul '08
Saw a demo of this on TV and when you compaired it to COD4 it looked absolutly terrible.

So who cares if it does not work
pablouk on 21 Jul '08
Loved MGS4 but the online is absolute crap. Avoid.
vulcanraven01 on 21 Jul '08

Hey Spud, I clicked on your Myspace link, and it played Kid Rock at me.

Forgive me if I never value your opinion on anything ever again. Wink

Exactly what I was going to say it was bad enough just trying to sign up for the beta. Well I feel sorry for all the MGS with problems but Konami you really need to sort your act out. As said there was enough trouble with the beta so how comes they still havent got around to sorting this for the go live. SHODDY maybe leave the online to companies that can handle it eh.

You get a new character slot if you buy the more expensive expansion
spud-o on 21 Jul '08
hopefully they will learn from this and just use psn id's in the future mgs games. Why change something if its already been proven?
Rens11 on 15 Aug '08
