Vivendi Games has refused to comment on the future of the Ghostbusters game in the wake of the Activision Blizzard merger.
Last night Activision revealed that a number of studios will be "realigned" or sold off in the merger with Vivendi. The games that weren't mentioned at all in the update included Ghostbusters and World in Conflict.
This morning a spokesperson for the company could only say things are "as is the release" in regards to the title. I.e. Unknown.
We've yet to reach anyone at Activision, though we'd expect to same 'no comment' to be honest.
"We have conducted a thorough review of Vivendi Games' brand portfolio and are retaining those franchises and titles that are a strong fit with our long-term product strategy," said Mike Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing. "We are reviewing our options regarding those titles that we will not be publishing."
Whilst the company will continue to support Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age, Prototype, Spyro and an unannounced game, the fate of the others is unclear.
Games not mentioned include Ghostbusters and World in Conflict, plus 50 Cent and Chronicles of Riddick.
Will over on PC Zone is gutted about the possibility of Ghostbusters being canned so close to release though. Our thoughts are with him (and the developers) at this time.
UPDATE: An American Sierra PR has told blog Destructoid (regarding Ghostbusters) "it is not cancelled and will not be cancelled."
Mergers and take overs SUCK. It's time everyone woke up to this.
If we send out a message to developers that we HATE them selling out like we do to things like intrusive copy protection or in-game advertising, perhaps they'll think twice about it. Greed is going to ruin this industry.
I thought this game looked really good, they perfectly capture the look and style of the films. I can't believe this game won't get a release, they're not gonna show it at E3 and have all the original cast recording voice for it, and then cancel it surely?
If they continue supporting Spyro and f**king Ice Age, and drop World in Conflict and Chronicles of Riddick.....well that will just be unspeakably stupid!
It makes no chuffing sense - the majority of the investment has already been made in development time. There's a fair old whack to spend on marketing, but the game already has the kind of hype factor that money can't buy.
Someone over there really needs their head checking out.
Wahay! This could be bad news for the company already then. They have lied in their first month of being merged. Read the link I shall be posting below and it will explain it all:
That's Blizzard though, they'll be left untouched because of WoW & the fact that it prints money. All of the other games/companies involved won't be so lucky, however.
I actually thought Ghostbusters was looking really nice so will be disappointed if it is canned.
I'm not sure how far down the line the development had got but surely with such a well known licence, if it was even 50% complete then cancelling it seems a bit extreme...having said that we don't know if there are issues with the studio developing it or maybe even it is just "broken" and needs to be shelved and redeveloped from the ground-up.

Yes but it does state regarding vivendi as a whole not being affected...
AND BRUTAL LEGEND YOU BASTARDS! Double Fine went through so much heartache with Psychonauts, they don't need it a second time!
glad to see this game hasnt been forgotten by some, at least ghostbusters was shown at E3 unlike B.L i just hope these are delayed ive been waitin for these for a while now and as ever in the games world now im used to delays, its the cancellations that p**s me off
As far as I am aware, Activision have been on record to say Ghostbusters has not been cancelled. Maybe delayed, I suppose.
I think it's highly unlikely that they'd fully cancel it so close to release. They've had the display cases up on the 'Coming Soon' shelf out in the States for the past couple of weeks.
Like everyone else that's posted so far - I'd love a great Ghostbusters game, but I'm not sure that this will be it....unfortunately.
id love to know what was the ace part man, the drivin round with a ghost vacuum on ur car, or driving round waiting for buildings to flash. ill admit i had it on the 128k, and then even downloaded the retro remake here:
while good concept back in the 80's when i had a case full of spectrum games with not one i was able to complete apart from Super trolley (bearin in mind i was about 5) even with the remake it just isnt that great.
NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!, ever since this game was announced I've been grinning from ear to ear & waiting of it to get a release date, this sucks that it will be delayed or maybe even *swallows the lump in his throat*...cancelled......
I really want a Ghostbusters game, but did anyone else think that this looked kinda... well super-average.
A ghostbusters game that looks the nuts would be great. I just didn't think this did.
With Ghostbuster you don't need a top looking game. It's the storyline people will me most interested in because Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd have written it and fans of the films will be wanting it.
I loved the films and was really looking forward to it - I'll be dissapointed if this doesn't happen.

I didn't mean just visually (although, it does look mighty poor from the shots i've seen) I meant, the screenshots didn't really convey any excitement - maybe i need to see it in motion.
And the 80's Ghostbusters game was one of my favourite games on my C64!
It's still on I see. Hurrah! I'm off to make a proton pack out of an old rucksack, some garden hose and some toilet rolls. I maybe - just maybe - might even make a trap out of a box of tissues. I'll see if I run out of glitter and Pritt Stick first...
