Saints Row developer Volition is shying off making a Wii version of its crime-em-up because - among other reasons - it would create controversy, says the developer.
"I'm sure it would," producer Dan Sutton told CVG in an interview. "With games like ours you get much more controversy when you add motion controls like you saw with Manhunt 2.
"We have weapons like chainsaws, satchel charges, stuff like that. I can definitely see people having a problem and outcry towards that because it does actually feel like you're using weapons that way."
But by the sound of things, angry Daily Mail mums isn't the only reason Saints Row Wii isn't on the release list...
"I'd say that [the Nintendo E3 press conference] was definitely underwhelming," Sutton told CVG.
"At Volition we're really about pushing really good graphics and with the Wii you just fell like you're playing on an older console," he said. "We're definitely focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
"In Manhunt it feels like you're hacking at somebody, though I suppose that was a bit more over the top than our game was. But yeah, I definitely think you'd get criticism for that in our game, GTA and Crackdown."
B*llocks. That's a p*ss-poor excuse for using engines already built for those consoles and thinking there's no market for this style of game on Wii.
Godfather Blackhand has great use of the Wii controls for garroting and punching and shooting people, and nobody went nuts about that because it was in-context and an 18-certificate game.

The release of Scarface was unchallenged on the Wii too.

Thats all what was needed to be said, I hate when developers going on about how this or that type of game wouldn't be suitable for Wii, there has already been violent sandbox games on the Wii, The Godfather, Scarface (you can chainsaw people, sell drugs, and swear at people 24/7), and No More Heroes (kind of).
the thing that i really dont understand is that these devlopers go on about oh we won't make games for the wii as we want them to be as realistic as possible...but at the first signs of realism they can't even be bottomd
Who would have thought the developers of 'bad-ass' game Saints Row would be afraid of a little controversy? Clearly hiring a pornstar is no longer controversial...
Oh God. The old graphics debate comes up again. I can understand it coming from thirteen-year-old fanbabies, but from developers? Grow up and start using your imagination.
I swear, this site is full of some p**s poor excuses for gamers. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of 360 and Ps3 graphics suffering for the sake of the Wii. The Wii is a gimmick consol, not a true next gen gaming system. Yes it's fun for ten minutes. It's great for party games when you have a lot of people over...and drunk. It's also great for nostalgia. Other than that, it's worthless. Games like Madden, GTA 4, COD4 don't need to be on the Wii. I wish more developers would focus on putting out solid games for the 360 and PS3 the way that volition is doing. Better to get it right on 2 true next gen consols rather than half-assin' it to make it available on everything, including the wannabe systems, like the Wii. f**kin' idiots.
