Ghostbusters coming out in 2009

25th anniversary tie-in mooted, but still no publisher
Activision-Vivendi's ill-fated Ghostbusters game has had its release plans pushed back into 2009, but it still doesn't have a publisher after Activision officially gave it the axe last week.

That's according to Variety's Cut-Scene blog, which says that rights owner Sony Pictures is working with Acti-Blizzard to evaluate various options surrounding the release of the 'Ghostbusters' video game.

"This has presented [Sony Pictures Consumer Products] with an opportunity to re-evaluate the game release marketing strategy to potentially coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original film in '09," the company said in a statement.

There's still no word on a new publisher from either party though, but with the amount of buzz that's gone into the game - and of course the nice and lucrative license - we doubt it'll be long before someone turns up with the goods.

At least it's still coming out. Check out the latest hands-on preview here.

Bar Steward. So the game will be ready and good to go but it will be collecting dust just so they can capitalise on the 25th anniversary, re-release of the movie no doubt. Understand the logic, dont make me happy though.

Damn you associated tie ins. : Mad

So when it comes out in a years time or more looking dated & bundled with all the other guff they wanna try & flog you, if it fails to sell dont come crying to me!.... even though i still would buy it.....gits.

At least it's going to see the light of day (hopefully).

With all the other games due out this year, it will give me a bit of time to complete them before moving onto Ghostbusters.

I'm a bit worried that Activision, one of the biggest publishers for crap games (and the odd good one), won't touch this any more. Doesn't look good for GB to be much good. Still, I live in hope.

Feck! Ghostbusters seems to be circling the drain and that is so disappointing.

I might remove this game from my radar completely - until I see some concrete evidence of a release date or early review of near-finished code.

Do you think the developers of the game when they got the news that their new publisher didnt want the game said to each

''Who you gonna call'' now

Im looking forward to this game, i can remember the orignal game on the spectrum, like most people off the 80's this film holds a special place in my heart and deserves a decent game.

So who ever is listening in publishing land, pick this game up and with a 25 year annivsary coming, its gonna sell not only to fans but to noobs who havnt heard of it before.

Hopefully it'll turn out ok, I'd doubt this would be canned however seeing the amount of work that's went into it!

It could be too late though as the way graphics are moving it could be looking dodgy by the time it gets released next year if it's good to go in a few months.

want it now, want it now, want it now, WANT IT NOW.

so is it absolutely definately coming out in 2009? That has dashed all my gaming hopes and dreams for this year. Crying or Very sad

The one game i was going to shell out full price for and they are only keeping it back to coinside with 25th anniversary? It'll be all finished? That sucks.

How about releasing it on time and geting downloadable content out for the anniversary? Or putting a PC demo on the inevitable re-release DVD?

If they do delay it, i hope they give us a demo in the meantime.

Otherwise i will just buy Brutal Legend instead. Wink
