Leonard "I am Spock / I am not Spock" Nimoy will present the first footage of the new Star Trek Online game at the Official Star Trek Convention this year.
The massive convention takes place on August 10 in Las Vegas (where else?), but if going to Nevada to see first footage of an MMO is a bit much for you, developer Cryptic will broadcast the event live via webcast.
We'll be watching from teh safety of our PCs. If nothing else, watching a room full of Star Trek fans get a glimpse at a virtual world built just for them will entertaining, to say the least.
I am not a MMO fan I played eve for a few months and it felt like having a second job so I quit that. It was fun to start off with but then it was just saving for this and saving for that. I then tried WOW to see what all the fuss was about and it was entertaining for a couple of months I got my Warlock to level 16 which I know is probably no great shakes but I was just bored after that and the fact that I was paying for it every month meant I had to stop because I wasn’t getting enough use out of it.
The only direct debit I am prepared to keep up and not get enough use out of is my gym membership and that’s it.
Still I am a fan of Star Trek and I prefer the sci-fi setting to the fantasy setting so I will be keeping an eye on this one and seeing if it is going to turn out to be a borg episode or just a crap Counsellor Troy 'I sense something captain' episode
one thing of note in this little news piece... a gaming reporter making old geek jokes about star trek fans... hypocrisy?
If you're gonna make those jokes, do the same about all the other fanboy/girls out there, such as those for Metal Gear, Halo, Nintendo, Zelda, Sonic, Mario, Playstation, XBox, Apple, Linux, MS, blah di blah di blah

If it was Star Trek RPG (I kind of like the sound of that!) there'd be the 'pointy hats and beards' cliche, we just can't win can we?
Oooo I thought this had been canceled, dammm you gamespot!. I'm looking forward to this one and I'm not even a fan..Has anyone seen any Quadro Triticale around here?
I haven't seen any screen-shots from the game that resemble the star trek universe one iota. Not that it matters to me because I'm not going to pay a monthly subscription to anything except future publishing for PC Gamer magazine.
MMOs suck ass in my opinion, unless they were free MMOs. Is a P2P MMO game beyond peoples abilities? I'm sure someone could make that happen...
