Driver skids onto PSN Aug. 14

PlayStation classic reborn on PS3 in a few weeks
Ubisoft has confirmed that PlayStation classic Driver will be available for download via the PlayStation Store on August 14.

"Step inside the world of the original wheelman in this revived classic from Ubisoft Reflections," says the publisher. "Driver for the original PlayStation was a huge hit on the original PlayStation and remains a classic. Soon you can relive those gaming memories, or enjoy it for the first time, on PSN for PlayStation 3."

A quick recap provided by the new publisher reminds up that Driver puts you in the driving shoes of Tanner, an undercover cop tasked with infiltrating an illegal syndicate through his impressive driving skills in a variety of cities across the globe. We just remember crashing a lot. But it was fun.

So mark it down. Driver on PSN from August 14 for around the £4 mark.

Is this game actually any good though?

Anyone?

I used to love this game, but revisiting PSone games recently has been a bit sad for me. The 16 bit era is cool for retro stuff but the 32bit era is marred with awful pop up and bad textures. Nowhere near as graceful as the sprites were on the megadrive.

spose on psp it would be ok, i enjoyed the survival mode which pitted you against full police force at the very beginin and you had to see how long you could survive, it was fun as they would happily sacrifce there own car going down breakneck speeds and losing control of there car in mid air just to slightly tap you, picture desruction derby but everyone against you, good times and a laugh with mates, its what i hoped GTAIV 6 stars would be like, that feeling of blues brothers going past 50 trashed-turned over busy cars, but no you drive out of a circle and they leave you alone *sigh*

It's a decent game really, good for PSP more than PS3 but I still preferred Driver 2 for the free roam...the missions were pretty average.

I'm still looking for better games on the PSN Store though...

the game has some of the best driving physics ever and the sort of graphics that look like last nights kebab after you've brought it back up. sure they were great at the time but they'd make your eye's bleed now. best consigned to history. Exclamation

Ooh im tempted, although i could probably get the ps1 disk version for the same price.

PRO EVOLUTION 1 or 2 would be nice - I'd snap that up QUICK AND ANY RESIDENT EVILS (but i doubt tha will EVER happen)

I seem to remember the compulsory training missions in the car park being a right hassle and the game was pretty unforgiving in mission end points, ie you had to stop exact in the end zone and time was tight.

That is a brilliant quote:

"Driver for the original PlayStation was a huge hit on the original PlayStation."

Looks like the work experience boy wrote that.
Why stop there?

"Driver for the original PlayStation was a huge hit on the original PlayStation and remains a classic for the original PlayStation. Soon you can relive those gaming memories you have of the original Playstaion, or enjoy it for the first time on the non-original Playstation 3, on PSN for PlayStation 3."

Bleurgh. Long day.

I don't see why it wouldn't - you can already get Resi 1 directors cut, Resi 2, and not to mention the likes of MGS1 on the JPN store.

Mind you, they've been on there for months. You'd think Sony EU would have bothered by now...lazy gits XD

Personally I'm not too bothered, replaying the games you grew up playing almost always ends in disappointment. just stick with the memories Laughing

Yeah, I remember too, that's what killed any interest I had in it stone dead.

Oh yeah I remember those practise missions now weaving inbetween the pillars in the car park. I used to play the game all the time back in the day, oh the memories Surprised
