Rockstar haters: "reactionary creeps with strange agendas"

Sam Houser calls out the Daily Mail and co
The co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser, has been speaking about all the negative press the firm and its games get. And whether or not it all gets in the way.

When asked by Develop about Rockstar being an easy target and if that bothered him, Houser replied, "Not really. Most of the people who hate us are people it is truly an honor to be hated by - reactionary creeps with strange agendas - and the Daily Mail. Most people who know about modern pop culture know about GTA and like or dislike it on its own merits."

He added, "I think we are both depressed at how boring we really are and how unexciting even the worse fabrications and exaggerations are when you read about them. None of it seems very rock and roll, so we find it a little sad, when there are probably better stories that could be written about both us and the industry/medium. No sharks, groupies or pounds of coke or anything fun at all. We read like angry dorks, which might be true, but is certainly not very exciting."

Houser was also asked about when we might see something to do with the promised downloadable content. "You'll see in a few months," he replied. A few months!? We hoped it would be sooner than that...

I like the Daily Mail comment! Very Happy

But Rockstar already promised DLC this autumn. Okay, they said "fall" but I'm not an American.

Won't that 6-month exclusivity deal be a little pointless if we don't actually get any DLC during that time?
Dajmin on 14 Aug '08
thought the six month exclusivity period was from the time of DLC release, not the game?

I say let the Daily Mail and the haters keep saying their crap. We all know they have no idea what they are on about and it gives us all something to luagh about!

Admittedly this is the Sates but check out this link here from 1UP:

That sounds like a party to me with the 4 options but its actually shocking that so many parents are actually scared of GTA. Incredible, but as I said this is the States, would we be worse in the UK?

Faily Mail, say no more!!

He can't have the rock and roll lifestyle but he can have the cash at least. I wouldn't give two figs for what the Daily Mail or reactionary cretins said. I'd just go back to counting my big pile of money, whilst eating from my big pile of sweets.

I have GTA San Andreas and Vice City and have completed and enjoyed both. I also read the Mail on Sunday - where does that put me in the grand scheme of things?? Please be kind!
al3r on 14 Aug '08
Basically his problem is the Mail and other people being offended on other peoples behalf, or telling people what they should be offended by.

i read that poll about parents being more worried about game than drugs.....maybe when out have a kid you lose half your brain cells.

On the DLC i think it might be a big xmas push, id love to have a reason to play more GTA other than multiplayer.

This has amused me no end.

The same haters are the best kind of publicity for Rockstar anyway. It just makes people more aware of the games and they might be interested enough to buy them.
Skreb-Masters on 14 Aug '08
The haters have a point on occasion - take Manhunt that was a hated game from the Daily Mail and a hateful little game to play - I think they got that one right.

Faily Mail, say no more!!

HAHAHA ... awesome ... can I use that?

Laughing harder at Mr Houser's "Tabloid Logic" though. Not the sharpest tool in the box is he? ... "erm ... ah .... duh ... if u d0nt l1k3 Rocks7ar then u ar3 teh f****tz". I love it when he makes my point for me. Rolling Eyes

As for creeps with strange agendas ... I tend to reserve that category for @rseholes who think that glorifying crime is big and clever.
