Microsoft's Xbox 360 scored a notable victory in Japan during the week ended August 10, shifting almost 25,000 units to outsell the PS3 2.5-1.
The console's jump in popularity - it sold 5,359 units the previous week - was no doubt fueled by the release of Namco Bandai's Tales of Vesperia, which debuted at No4 in the software chart after selling 108,000 copies.
Nintendo's DS topped the hardware chart, according to sales data compiled by Media Create, overtaking the long-running bestseller, Sony's PSP, although just 2,000 sales separated the handheld pair.
Nintendo's Wii was comfortably the bestselling home console once again, moving 38,000 units, followed by the Xbox 360.
The PS3, which racked up just shy of 10,000 sales, held onto its narrow lead over its predecessor.

Yes it shipped inbedded in Blue Dragon when the 200k purchasers of that title in Japan showed their non 360 owning friends it kicked into action.
Also apparently one of the biggest stores in Japan for gaming/electronics ran out of 360's (most probably only had 50 in stock mind you) when Tales got released. They also had queues for Tales too which for a 360 title is not bad in Japan.

Well maybe like getting FF13 on the 360 they didnt actually give any money for this. Although no company has said either way on this title. Even if they did, that investment may be an investment in a future in Japan for their consoles only time will tell.

I would say Eternal Sonata as it brings some fresh ideas into the combat and is pleasing on the eye. Also the story incorporating Chopin and his music is a novel idea in my opinion. Although it might be worth you renting any of the titles I have mentioned and making your own mind up (I cant be held responsible then if you dont like Eternal Sonata).
I liked the combat in Eternal Sonata, but it's the parts in between that bored the sh*t out of me. Most JRPGs are so linear it's not funny. It's a straight run from A to B and there's no choices, barely even a fork in the very linear road.
I played this demo too and it was a little better in terms of running around, but the combat was a yawnfest instead.

Well personally for me it would be Lost Odyssey. As far as RPG's go with the random battle system, LO does a really good job of not getting you into a battle every three seconds, and it's alot closer to the FF mechanics from final fantasy 9 downwards than blue dragon is.

I'm assuming thats the TOV demo yes? I cba to setup international accounts so was waiting until Euro live gets demo to try it (although I'm sure the game will be here before Euro live gets demo) or have I been blind on live and not seen demo.
Yeah Sonata is a bit linear but was good fun to play in my opinion. Lost odyssey suffered from the same problem to a degree as yes you could go anywhere once the map opened but you did not have a world map to travel across as such you just arrived at set destinations with very little exploration although I still enjoyed playing the game.

You might want to read everyone else's post before spouting nonsense. We know 360 sales in Japan is a one off. We know PS3 sales are likely to overtake 360 sales the following week. This happened when Blue Dragon was released over in Japan. None of us are saying that this is Microsoft's turning point or that they're going to dominate Japan. We all know better than that. If you actually bothered to read people's comment's you would realise that. Instead, you just made yourself look like an idiot.
I've read in articles in Games TM that state that the 360 in japan is popular amongst the older gamers who are intrested in trying the westrn games obviously there's not many. Also in Japan they aren't very trusting of less well known brands so in theroy if microsoft keep on promoting there brand they actually may crack the market by the time the forth of fifth X box comes out.

No I know what you are saying but you completely dis regarded my point about if Sony and Msoft went under they would most probably take their games studios too so those games studios would not be releasing anything on the PC. If Sony and Msoft go can those companies you mentioned be able to produce the quality of games they do without the umbrella of the larger companies(hence why they are with them in the first place as they cannot support theirselves so easily)? I'm sure they get help financially (well some of the devs under the wings of Sony and Msoft do)from the big boys(well the money boys anyway). At the end of the day it's all a mute point as neither Sony or Msoft are going anywhere for a long time.

Oh I know they buy all of one of the most expensive coffees(blue mountain from Jamaica)and do they drink it. By heck no they sit in the grinds! Which means we have to pay 20 quid for either 100 or 200 grams of the stuff(cant remember as has been a long time since I had it).

The funny thing is, thats the most its ever done! lol When MGS4 came out it sold twice as many as the 360 console has shipped and thats not even a RPG serise! Plus the 360 is like a flotting turd! Pops up and down again!

I've said this before and I'll say it again, Japan is a waste of time, money and effort for MS. These days Japanese developers need to catter to the US audience to turn a decent profit, which is why we see heavy support from the likes of Namco Bandai, Capcom etc. If MS pulled out of Japan, it would be no different. Rather than celebrating a pointless victory for 360 in Japan, the focus should be those god awful PS3 sales figures. If Sony want PS3 to have any hope of PS3 taking 2nd spot from 360 in worldwide sales, it needs to take advantage of Japan where 360 barely exists. Only just managing to outsell PS2 is a complete utter joke.

I think Sony's Ivan PSP should maybe try to understand that the more shocking news for Sony is the fact that their PS3 only sold a very mediocre 9000 units. It pales in comparison to the PS2 sales of yester year.
No one in this forum is under any illusion that this is amy more than a blip in the sales figures for the Xbox, but that said M$ seem to be catering for the RPG needs of a lot of the Asian Audience. An audience that Sony are somewhat neglecting at the present moment.
