The first screenshots of Eidos and Rocksteady's Batman game have appeared on the internet - and they look fantastic.
Batman: Arkham Asylum - which has nothing to do with the Bale films - is a dark and gritty action-come-stealth game based on the DC Comic books.
Combat focuses on both stealth and speed with the use of only three buttons; attack, throw and stun. There are also plenty of boss battles in the game, which apparently requires you to use various gadgets to keep Batman on top.
"Batman: Arkham Asylum offers players the chance to battle Gotham's worst villains with Batman's physical and psychological strength in a graphically distinct and story-driven game," said Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment boss Martin Tremblay.
"We look forward to working with Eidos on expanding DC Comics' world-renowned character Batman in the game space with a noticeably different feature set in an incredibly dark interactive environment," he added.

Just registered to enable me to comment on a few things. Im a massive Batman fan and have played all the games. This game bears a striking resemblance to Batman Dark Tomorrow. I know Batman Dark Tomorrow was based on a more open world but it intended to have the same dark, gritty direction this game is onto. Also it was supposed to be an open world Gotham but then that fell through and it ultimately ended up being a shambles. I mean i still have the game but just beacause i am a fan and it had soo much more potential. I was all hyped up about the Dark Knight video game based loosely on the film. The thought on an open world adventure round Gotham just gets me soo excited. I know that game may still come out in the future, as its delayed due to poor quality at the moment. But when i heard about this game Batman:Arkham Asylum and read the scans of the magazine, this could rejuvinate the Batman game franchise the same as Batman Begins did for the Movie franchise.
Off topic, I know - but, has anyone seen any reviews on Hellboy yet?
I saw it when I was out and about at lunch and, being a bit of a Hellboy fan, kinda had some interest in that one too (unless it is utterly unplayable, of course).
The stakes are raised for the rumoured EA/Pandemic Dark Knight game.
They definitely are my friend! I think its great because theres: Batman:Arkham Asylum, Batman Lego The video game, Mortal Kombat vs Dc universe and the Dark knight Video Game. It a great time to be a Batman Fan!

I hope it gets scores above 8 out of 10
I agree, mostly down to the developer's reputation. I hold out hope though - this could be great. It's certainly a great idea at least, and getting Paul Dini to write the story is a wise move.

I've seen one review so far and it's not good. Basic summary - avoid the game at all costs.

Yeah, I just managed to find one and it said pretty much the same thing.....shame - I was watching one of the animes last night!
Looks pretty good - the art direction seems somewhere between Brian Bolland's "The Killing Joke" and Dave McKean's "Arkham Asylum"...very nice. Very creepy.
It definately looks great, I just hope it's not all show and no go. I hope that you can play as Bruce Wayne in one level and stalk Wayne Manor, that would be ace.
it looks good but i heard it was postponed because the controls were rubbish and the game sucked
as we all know like 80% of the time - good graphics rubbish gameplay
e.g the wii - rubbish console - rubbish graphics rubbish gameplay rubbish controls - rubbish games
For your information, the Batman game that is delayed due to poor controls and quality is The Dark Knight video game loosely base on the new film. This games turning out great and nobody knows how it handles yet.
