You wouldn't feed a starving child a bag of desiccated coconut so why, on a console where a decent multiplayer dungeon crawler would be like a chocolate enema to a menopausal diabetic, have we have been served this? Too Human looked salivating on the menu, but now we've actually chewed through it, it's sticking at the back our throats.
Exactly what's gone wrong here is difficult to understand - as, structurally at least, it's pretty unremarkable. A series of dungeons, a 'home' of sorts where the story bits kick in and when there's shopping to be done, and running underneath it all is the age old mechanic of Bash-Loads-Of-Stuff-Over-And-Over-Until-You're-Really-Strong.
There are elements that are genuinely interesting. The controversial combat system, which sees you pushing the right analogue stick in the direction you want to attack (actual swings of the sword are automatic, see) makes for fluid combat that, at the very least, is easier in a physical sense, and in co-op, 'servingup' enemies for a friend to air-juggle is a great way of making you feel as though you're working as a team.
Unfortunately though, this is just one of a handful of redeeming qualities for Too Human, with the bad, tedious, or just plain annoying stacking up against our ability to view it favourably.
Human error 'Special' mention has to go to the unspeakably idiotic way in which death is treated. Should you fall, you're punished in two ways. Firstly, your weapons and armour degrade and secondly, your corpse is revived via a 20 second cut-scene that's completely unskippable. Some sections of the game are brutally tough, thanks to the sheer numbers involved. In these instances, speedy health loss is inevitable, resulting in a Miserable Cycle Of Death, where you have to watch the same damn cut-scene over and over again, while you desperately try to run away or whittle down the enemy.
It's remarkable for its utter stupidity and anyone who doesn't want to send Silicon Knights a bedpan full of liquid brown hate for it is a better human than us. More often than not this is a war of attrition, not skill - grinding out the numbers rather than relying on deft finger work. And the realisation that the armour damage side-effect of death is irrelevant (you're always picking up new bits) means you can just keep hacking through with nothing but steely, cyborg determination. Which, frankly, is no fun whatsoever for those with real blood flowing through their veins.
Norse nonsense Too Human's unusual in that it fosters so much genuine anger. It didn't have to turn out like this, not after all this time. These niggles are all easily solvable, even if it meant surrendering some of the game's 'innovations' to travel the well-trodden path laid down by some superb dungeon crawlers. It's intensely frustrating because we want to love it.
The universe and story are compelling and there are ideas in here, like the self selling crap-o-loot when your inventory is full, which show that plenty of thought has gone into it. Likewise, the sheer number of weapons and armour to scavenge will engage those who are predisposed to obsessively fiddle.
Ultimately though, when you start to crave any given section of the game to end just because you're so utterly bored of it, when you're hacking your way through another swarm of metal enemies utterly identical to those you fought in the last twelve (almost) identical rooms, you're inevitably going to start to feel like there's something not quite right with Too Human. And you'd be right.
I really loved the demo of this and was looking forward to playing the full game. However now, after reading several reviews all saying the same as this one, I can't say that I'm not a little pessimistic and very disappointed.
This review reads pretty much like the one I wrote on the demo over at GameTrailers.
It's like they had some good ideas, but had to drop them all in favour of copying the current list of generic button-mashers that are on the market now.

I love that quote a terrible Xbox 360 exclusive i would hate to be Microsoft now a waste of money.
This game sucks. You have to wait 30 seconds every time you get kill and the graphics are that great they look really dated. The control scheme sucks feels horrible every game websites all thinks this game sucks Gamespot gave it 5.5 IGN 7.8 1up C- Game Informer 6.5 this game is worst than Haze not worth renting or buying or borrowing it sucks that bad.

I always though 7.8 was a good score. I enjoyed the demo and played each class through. I'll be buying the game when it comes out I don't trust reviews they're never have the same view as me and can't be trusted. Take GTA4 not a perfect game no where near just full of hype.
I've had a 360 since launch, and I think 2008 has been its worst year by a distance. The Christmas line up should do a lot to redeem it, but I hope 2009 offers some gaming nuggets throughout the rest of the year as well.
10 years to produce a polished turd then? i could have done that in 10 minutes.
I bet you couldn't even finish a turd in 10 minutes.
I kid I kid!
Score is to be expected I suppose.
No, your right. i usually take a mag or book in to read and get carried away. sometimes up to 25 mins. i'm surprised that i don't pass out from the fumes. but then again you can always suffer your own handywork. ah you can change the subject but it always comes down to s**te

Same as. Looks like they may of been better of concentrating on the game than the arguements with Epic.
Ah well now they have their own engine running maybe (if it gets the green light) the sequel can address the shortcomings of this title.

You're right they do say it sucks which is a shame. But then I don't think most of us are going to start crying that those sites are biased because they marked the game for what it is.
I always expected this to turn out average at best after all the troubles the development faced. Although, these days I take reviews with a pinch of salt. Apparently GTA4 and MGS4 are games handed down from the gods based on the reviews they recieved and yet I found myself bitterly let down after completing each. With that in mind I'll probably give this a rent so I can make my own mind up.
Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3 Version) (I own the Xbox 360 version) Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3 Exclusive) Both of those games deserve a perfect 10. Too Human is pure garbage trash http://www.mininova.org/search/xbox+360/seeds

Neither deserves a 10. There are many games that have come along that would have been more deserving of 10's in the past that hadn't received them. These games were given 10's for riding on the back of a tidal wave of hype. If it weren't for that they still have received high scores, but not tens.

if you enjoyed the game why does someone elses viewpoint matter.......

And why are you comparing Too Human to GTA or MGS?
they can't cope with anything new. pluss they tend to suck at the games so they play the game at easy and still die alot. and they end up giving the rewiew a bad feeling like they did with crysis witch i played on delta difficulity.
this is a incredible game if you are openminded enough to like it, some will hate it and some will love it.
just like STALKER not all will be able to experiense the game in all it's glory. and poor them because they loose a hell of a experiense.
screw the rewiers! if you liked the demo buy the game if you got the cash to spare.
nice, i bought this damn 360 last week coz it was at a gud price (kinda just lying around though) and then pre-ordered this damn game from hmv. and now it sux awesome
why do people complain so much about the death scene?? it's simple just dont die... it's not the game's fault you suck at it.
i highly recommend ninja gaiden 2 master ninja difficulty
God, for a lot of people on these forums thats asking too much! Silly Ninja Dogs!
tht would b better on the 1st game on the hardest diff lvl in 2 enemy ai is still downright retarded on the hardest, just numbers increase so its not tht hard. bet u were really proud of urself when u beat it

Generally I do like to make my own mind up, but the reviews are generally saying that the action sections are good (which I enjoyed from the demo), but there is not much variety throughout the game. If I've seen everything from the full game in the demo, then what's the point.
What you are saying is right, in that the best critic of anything is always yourself. However, if the weight of opinion is so strongly voiced in one direction, then you should take notice.

As my like minded friend up there wrote, my mate and I took it back to blockbuster when completed. Not that I should be justifying myself to someone who is downright retarded but I did do it on the first game also. Bet your proud of yourself for your mature outburst?

yep agree What?!? The stupid sheeple have to be led and spoon fed now a days? hmmph If you played the demo and liked it, loved it, or obsessed with it what makes you think that bad reviews would change your gaming experience? unless you have a weak mind that is.....
If you dont like it because you played it, fine. I hate sports games no big. I got it last night (because I loved the demo and am not a human sheep) and guess what?!? I enjoyed putting a pasting on GRNDL and beyond
Look, its got flaws A pretty steep learning curve but it is hella fun if you like those type of loot ho'ing games cant wait to go coop. I would give it around an 8.3 for a real score and 9.2 for me

Well you're a frickin genius aren't you? We can all see that the game sucks from the review, that's what review are for, or did you not know that? We do not need you telling us that the game sucks when can see it from the review you pathetic attention whore.

What with Lips, Scene It! and Halo Wars?!?!? The last of which looks terrible for an RTS and then there is the fact you have to use a gamepad. Deary me.
It is looking much better on PS3. Much better. Yes that's right.

I must say this is how Lair was taken out; the reviews said it was trash, and people believed it. Even though it wasn't in many people eye's.
Personally if I was a 360 owner I would rent the game to see how it is and not take this review like its the law or something, since reviewers usually just like to rush through games to get a review out instead of replaying them to find the great little intricacies of said games.
But hey, since I'm not a 360 owner, I'm guessing I'm not much help here.

I think Lairs trouble (and maybe with this too) was expectations were very high. As for not helping maybe, maybe not but a good sensible attitude.
I have the game and I can tell you with authority that it gets much much better at the end of the second mission. The game is a dungeon crawler, but I think they did an awsome job considering they SWITCHED ENGINES in the middle of development. If you play a Berserker expect to die... a lot... like all the f'ing time. The death scene is like 15 sec... I noticed the lower the score the higher the count for the death scene... it's not really even an inconvenience unless you're a berserker... cause you die a lot and keeping your combo meter up will keep those health drops comming so if you are good you can probably die very infrequently as a class that has hitpoints and armor
Cueil has summed up exactly what I was going to say about Too Human, I really wouldn't judge the game by its demo. It really does get much better after the first act. Playing with a mate is also good fun and as you level up and get better gear you really do feel the benefit. A great loot em' up and dungeon crawler, if you like that type of game this shouldn't be missed.
they dont mention the fact u can run straight through it 1st time in 7 hours it really is ridiculously short, and because theres no higher difficultys and the enemies level up with u theres really no reason to level up,such a damn shame it does get better gameplay wise once u get really good at it but its still a waste its a third of a game rather than the 1st part of a trilogy
