LGC: Footage from id's Rage

Id and new mate EA deliver the goods from Leipzig
Id Software and publishing partner EA have released the first in-game footage of Rage, and would you believe it? It looks flippin' incredible.

The FPS-meets-Mad-Max-racer is running on Id's new Tech 5 engine, which if we're to believe John Carmack (and why wouldn't we?) shares assets across all of its platforms - PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

What does that mean? Well hopefully the PS3 version won't be released a year after the 360 and PC versions for starters...

This is a much better version of what was shown recently at QuakeCon. That was shaky cam, this isn't.

And if that excites you, check out our Rage interview from last year's Games Convention. We've seen pretty much nothing of the game since, so it's still relevant.

Bloody Hell and the video player works for once.

Another game to go on my most wanted list.

Hope to see some actual gameplay footage soon and not just cinematics. Sounds like this could be good but will want to see a lot more first.

I believe Carmack if he says thats ingame, and i have to say this makes Motorstorm look like a last generation racing game in comparison.

But i seriously can not wait. Bring on the PC version please! Oh and Carmack, where is my Quake Live beta key?

I believe it's in game footage but still a cinematic with no AI routines etc running.

That looks incredible indeed. Much better than those bland first screens I saw.
Dinalfos on 20 Aug '08
Why do the cars look like little Hot Wheel toys?

The creatures are awesome though.
Little Moth on 20 Aug '08
That actually looks pretty damn special indeed.

Great, another pointless fmv clip!

Great, another pointless fmv clip!

It is until the last bit when it uses in game cinematics in my opinion.

I'm really starting to get excited about this one. Didn't like Doom3 much, but this one looks promising. Doom meets Mad Max? Sign me up.

And the graphics looks incredible, but that's no surprise, it's from id after all.
Vyvrtka on 20 Aug '08
I'd say that was probably using the game engine but not gameplay.
tuscan01 on 20 Aug '08
Added to my "Awwww yeaahhh" list.
Xdwardo on 20 Aug '08
Nice graphics, but that's quite an insipid thing to say when it comes to iD. Their games always LOOK good. Gameplay (what little we've seen of it) seems completely unremarkable.

Until we learn more about it, meh.
Mogs on 20 Aug '08
Looks alright.

But,

"You look like you could use a drink, stranger."

- Thanks, but turn the Bloom lighting off first.
apophis_dd on 20 Aug '08
...oh my hairy god!

Why havent I seen this game before...
Loves "id"...always gives us the good stuff.
ryddah on 20 Aug '08
Better than ever.

But they need to work on those motor sounds. They sound like little R/C cars. xD
Metal-Geo on 20 Aug '08
Haven't we seen this before? At least most of the footage on display there.
