It looks like the PSP-3000 rumours were true: Sony Euro boss David Reeves has just unveiled the new-design handheld, which will be out in Europe on October 15 for 199 Euros (£157), and in UK on October 17 for £149.99.
As Sony confirms, the new console will also be launched in a variety of bundles, including Go! communications, Buzz!: Master Quiz, FIFA '09 and Harry Potter bundles.
The new design, as with the Slim and Lite, looks very similar to the old PSP. The PSP-3000 though is sporting an "enhanced" LCD screen, says Dave, which can apparently display more colours on screen.
As the rumours suggested, the PSP-3000 has also got a built-in microphone which can be used to access Skype and Go!Messenger via Wi-Fi.
Over 13 million PSPs have been sold in Europe, says Sony, who we're sure hope this will add some more zeroes to that number.
We're already calling it the Slimmer and Lighter. Pics soon.
Nice i've been holding off getting a PSP for ages but this is exactly what i've been waiting for. Hopefully it'll be at a nice price point too when it hits the UK market!
Unnecessary but oh well, no harm in releasing another one. May pick a Slim and Light up if they come down in price, my other PSP has been used to death and the analogue isn't in the best condition.
There are now more PSP variants than there are good games to play on them, What should i play God of War on, My Slim and Lite, my Old & Fat, or my Bright & Talky.
Awesome timing, i just sat on mine (yup im that clumsy) and broke the screen so a new one is what i need and skype means i can call myself all day using my psp and mobile as NOONE ELSE I KNOW USES IT!
Add some more zeros? I'm sure this will sell more PSP's, maybe a few million more, but are European PSP sales going to go up to 130 million or 1.3 billion?!?!?
Great news for those that want one but what features would make existing users upgrade? The PSP release catalogue is quite light, crtainly compared to the DS ( and i mean volume rather than quality), and I cant help but thinking that gamers would be more interested in a second pad or other functionality rather than skype, etc. I wonder if Sony is in danger of losing their key gamer market but focussing on technology diversity rather than gameplay?
Very underwhelming. I have bought a fat one, and a skinny one, but unless the screen is massively improved (doubtfull, as presumably it will be running on the same UMDs of the same spec) i'll give this a miss..
Instead of adding features, perhaps they should remove some space. I'd love to see a PSP Mini or Micro appear. Wouldn't mind seeing a PSP in the size of an iPhone, for instance.(Although I just found out an UMD wouldn't fit. xD)
But that comes from someone who still plays with his GBmicro.
I think that this is a pretty good deal i mean sony will PROBABLY sell this at £129.99 for the base pack, £149.99 for the value pack (including AV cable - like in japan) and £179.99 for the mega pack.
I bought my PSP Phat on release day in september 05 then traded that in on release day for my slim and light on release day and now im going to trade in my slim and light in for my psp 3000 on release day!!!!
I dont know what everyone is sayin about sonys marketin being so rubbish I mean they're only there to make money, just like tescos and asda. Its a buisness transaction.
They could have put another frikkin analouge stick on it, thats the only reason i havent got a PSP yet!(Im a big FPS fan, so i need 2 analouge sticks lol)
Seriously, a new PSP only 12 months after the Slim & Lite?! Also, how can the screen possibly have more colours than 16 million? A higher resolution screen might be nice, as devices like the Nokia N810 and Archos 605 are the same 4.3", but have huge 800x480 screens.
I don't own a 360 thanks so that's your little theory blown away, but you just continue to masturbate over anything Sony and keep your little pecker pointed well away from me.
I can only guess that you must rate the PSP screen, and think it can't get any better. If that's the case, then I can only recommend that you keep your head buried firmly in the sand.
I've held off getting a PSP, mainly because I hardly play handheld games - sold my DS after hardly using it. But I like the linking it can do with the PS3, being able to play PSone games on the PSP itself, etc.
So I imagine whenever I buy a PS3, I'll end up getting this new PSP then. That's if Sony don't release a full-on PSP 2 by then!

I came very close to buying a PSP a few months back. Tried it out and actually really liked it, to the most part (loved Ridge Racer!).
My only complaint is just how uncomfortable the thing was - admittedly, I've got huge hands that it probably wasn't designed for, but it got really uncomfortable - really quick.
This was the original PSP - has anyone else had the same problem?, would the Slim version help?

I know what you mean mate, the old PSP did get uncomfortable, especially if playing for extended periods (like a few hours on FF Tactics for example).
I found the Slim & Lite to be much nicer to hold, however its the same size, just not as deep as the older, fatter PSP. The only problem I have is clawing my finger round to use the d-pad while my thumbs using the analogue nub.

I think that was the main problem - your hands are constantly having to stretch to reach around to meet the buttons.
I'm still pretty keen to pick one up - there are some great titles out there for it and the homebrew side is fantastic (I'd still absolutely love to get Victory Boxing from the PS1 running on it!).
