Valve has confirmed the release date for Left 4 Dead, saying it's slipped a little for some fine tuning.
According to Valve's marketing VP, Doug Lombardi, the game will launch in North America on November 18 with us European-types being able to pick up it on November 21.
We're guessing that means both the PC and 360 versions.
Trivia fans may like to know that the new date coincides with the 10th anniversary of the original Half-Life launch. But don't read too much into it, Lombardi told ShackNews it's just "ironic coincidence". It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife. Or something like that.
Although a PS3 version isn't currently planned, Valve's Doug Lombardi told CVG that there's a "50-50" chance of a PS3 conversion, after admitting the company was re-evaluating its stance on Sony's increasingly successful console.
Can't wait. Probably my most anticipated game this year, easily one of them.
It was originally given a release date of November 4th (edit: Zonf is probably right saying the 7th, the 4th is likely the US date), so the delay isn't too bad at all. Hopefully they'll be allowing people to pre-load it over Steam a few days early, so I can get playing as soon as it's officially released.
Thank the lord for that - Fable 2, Fallout 3 and then Left 4 Dead, week after week would have been horrendous. My bank balance would have taken a sever beating.
At least with this slight delay, we have the chance to kick Fallout 3 in a bit.
I think I'll need to get an extra job to earn the money to buy all the games I want in the next few months...
...Mercenaries 2, Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2, Call of Duty 5 (even though they've dropped the numbers!), Banjo Kazooie...
...and then quit both of them to play through them all!
This looks brilliant, but could unfortunately get lost in the xmas rush. Then again, this would be ideal in the summer drought next year, along with a few other titles that I won't physically be able to afford/play come xmas.

I know what you mean, but this game should have some serious lasting appeal - I can well imagine people still playing this with gusto next summer (much like GOW2).
There is just not enough time to get all these games and finish them - just like last year!

It's worse than last year! The PS3 was very quiet last xmas, but this year sees some pretty cool releases. Along with the ton of 360 releases, I am stuffed! The best of the best only for me. Gears 2, Fable 2, LBP and Resistance 2 are my defo's.

Yup, some damn fine games coming to us lucky gamers before Christmas.
Unfortunately for me - there is one in particular that will most likely eat up all the spare time that I have, seeing as you did not list it; I assume you haven't caught the bug yet.....
There are about 8 games coming in October alone that are definite buys for me. I don't want to even look at what the last 2 months of the year are going to cost me.
Also, on the topic of Left4Dead, you lads might be interested in this article on Gamespy: http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/left-4-dead/901953p1.html The writer played a session with Gabe Newell, and it's quite an interesting read. He talks about a few enemy types, says how the infected are attracted to loud noises like car alarms, and talks a bit about the "Director" software that runs in the background, analyzing how everyone is playing, and generating the next section based on that.
The sound of a grown 30-something man weeping gently as he realises that there isn't enough time to play all the games coming out over the next few months (let alone finish the stack that has already accumulated)
Also, CVG, Alanis Morrisette should have looked at a dictionary before writing that bl**dy song! She didn't have the slightest idea what irony is!!!

Tell me about it....to make matters worse, I picked up Splinter Cell: Double Agent for £3.99 on Saturday - figured I'd give it a quick blast, I knew it wasn't supposed to be as good as the others. About 30 minutes in and it felt like hooking up with an old friend again - looks like I have to finish off a launch title before October too!!

I feel your pain... I recently realised that I never finished Dead Rising, Half Life 2: Episode 2 or Lego Star Wars and stupidly vowed that I would before buying another game...
That dull thunk is me hitting my head against a wall (the scribbling in the background is my wife filling in divorce papers)

Ahem - had too much Irn Bru?
Chill out - it's a forum, people talk...it's not as if this was going to get the number of posts that a PS3 update obviously will
I'm not worried about the cost, to be honest - it's more the time factor for me....too many games left unfinished for my liking.
Me want buy boomy Zombie game and other come leafy fall season, but me worry and concern that meat stores won't sustain me over course of gameplay.
Pray to Gods for mild Winter.
Another great thing about Left 4 Dead is that Valve will no doubt apply their policy of offering free content packs for years to come, so even if it loses it's shine after a few months, level and weapon packs will inevitably appear at various intervals, dragging us all back to the game over and over.

Take a chill pill dude. Besides, not everyone CAN afford to buy a game every Friday, as strange as it seems. Some of us have wives/girlfriends, houses, children, cars etc etc that all require slices of our 'bank account pie'.

Wow! And yet, YOUR post was so much more interesting! You've shown a vast vocabulary, precise use of capital letters and punctuation and your post is informative and non-"ranty" - I am impressed...
I'm also pleased that the phenomenal amount of tax that I part with each month is paying you enough in benefits to purchase games every week (and probably some sort of hoodie), I think that you may want to earmark a little of that cash for future medication, though.
If you have any trouble with the big, scary words in this post, please feel free to mail me. Now, calm down and remember that mummy loves you and you are still her special little soldier.
