So there's still no solid release window planned for the proper return of Duke Nukem Forever but the impending launch of Duke Nukem 3D on Xbox Live will only get people (like us) thinking and wanting the real Duke game.
During an interview with TeamXbox that focused on the Xbox Live remake, 3D Realms boss man George Broussard teased, "It's going really well. There are several hours of fairly polished game to play. We're actively testing parts of the game and getting feedback from play testers and things are coming together."
The good news is that, "It's fun, it's in focus, we know what bits are fun and which are not, and it's just a matter of time now. I've probably never been as happy or excited about the game as I am these days."
Must refuse to make a joke about ten-years in development. They're getting too easy.
What the hell have they been doing for the last 10 years? Trying to tell us their entire output in the last decade has been a few dodgy screenshots coupled with some fleeting, non-inspiring video footage?

And a Duke Nukem 3D port to the 360.
To be fair, they have acted as "producers" (whatever that means in terms of computer games) on a number of games in those 10 years, including both Max Paynes.
Good call on the Count Arthur Strong sig. The only radio show to almost kill me. I was chortling so much, I almost drove into a bridge support @ 40mph.
There is footage of the game. If you go to www.3drealms.com , scroll down to a June 5th entry called "Jace Hall and Duke Nukem Forever." About 3/4 through the video, it shows him playing the game. From what this Jace Hall fellow says, we "will be pleased."
I dunno; since this is almost three months old now, am I to assume everyone already knows about this video and has since been declared a joke of some kind?
This is a long running saga of development. How 3D Realms keep running over the years I don't know. They have of course the Max Payne games and other Duke Nukem ports, but they must have some serious financial backing from somewhere. Or it must be that their "10 years of development" has been sporadic over the years, into months. I remember back in 1998 and 2000 when I was waiting for this game, initially back in 1998 on the Quake 2 engine!!! So Old!! I cannot believe it has not been released yet. It has got beyond a joke and I don't care anymore!

I wouldn't be surprised, I remember the video you mention and looked to me like a quickly knocked up mod.
It wouldn't be the first game to spend 10 years in development with people questioning whether it will ever come, and still end up getting released. And despite the slating it got, and the undeniably grating death sequence, I still think Too Human is an enjoyable game, even if it's not the groundbreaking release people were hoping.
Here's hoping DNF (Do Not Finish, as the devs have obviously interpreted that acronym! - yeah sorry, I couldn't resist) manages to be even better... You know, because it will have had 15 years in development by the time it's out! xD
The whole original game was scrapped! They redid everything. Duke Nukem isnt their only franchise. Any one that loves Duke cant wait..
Wasn't that partly due to the game engine being out of date because they took so long to finish the game? Let's hope they're not getting a sense of deja-vu. And let's hope this is not another '10 years in development' game that proves a big disappointment (cf. Too Human). Personally, I'm surprised the developers don't get bored silly with working (or not working) on the same project for so long. This has been in development for so long that it can't possibly live up to expectations...
3D Realms says it's actively testing parts of the game...
I can just see it now, "does the start game button work?" ......"yes it does!" ..."1st test phase complete"....."Now we just have to program the game and hang that off of the start button".
Firstly, there is no way this game has been in development for 10 years solid. Its just doesn't work that way. It will have had a few years, then gotten canned, where the guys will have gotten moved onto other projects, then they will have come back, started again, and it didn't go anywhere.
They will never say that it was canned at any point, that's just bad marketing. But i think they have hinted that they had a total "do over" several times.
The version they have biult now, i believe, will have had a similar dev time than most current gen titles. There is no way it has had 10 years of 100% time spent on it. They just don't want to publicily admit the years it got got shelved for a while.
To be fair, they have acted as "producers" (whatever that means in terms of computer games) on a number of games in those 10 years, including both Max Paynes.
A producer means that the concept for the game is theirs, and basically everything else about the game, how it looks to how it plays, they produced it, then they get another company to actually develop those ideas into a full game.
And to be honest, this news post says nothing at all, all it does is confirm they are doing what they are supposed to be doing, no other company has to do that because we all know they are working on their own games.
