Here's your latest DS remake rumour

From "several industry sources outside of Nintendo" this time...
The internet managed to go a few weeks without talking about a new DS but the silence has again been broken.

This time by Kotaku, who's reporting (via several external Nintendo sources) that the company is working on an updated Nintendo DS.

Kotaku says, "The screens are supposedly slightly bigger, but the biggest change is that the new DS will apparently have two touch screens -- so it's like a dual touch DS."

An announcement, "if true", will happen early next year. You're going to have to wait and see.

I do remember a dev talking about that, early on in the DS's life, but that would be ridiculous. You'd have to program games anew for the new DS.
How would that be a remake?

Exactly. It would probably be launched as the DS2 or something......

let's just ignore these rubbish rumours and let nintendo do the announcing shall we?

you wouldn't realy need to reprograme the games just make it so that all games that only use one touch screen treat the second one as a normal screen
like you can do with GBA games when playing on the bottom screen

eg in mario 64 the touch screen is used to control mario with the top screen showing you him etc, the game wont recognise the second touch screen and thus will not do anything if you use it

i like the idea of 2 touch screens it means that some games like advance wars etc can spread the map across the 2 and have a huge area or you can have sub menu's on the top screen which can be flicked through quickly while the bottem screen is for the mean game

lots of different combinations and oppotunities

but it is all rumours so i'm just going to ignor it till nintendo say sometihng

I hope this is only speculation, as the DS still has the shelf life to stay popular for a couple more years.
Bringing out a 'DS2' is only going to confuse issues and make both platforms less popular.
I'm all for brighter screens, better sound etc to make a DS1.01, but to make a new handheld system is only going to make things worse. Crying or Very sad

Nintendo are stuck in a hole at the moment, because they probably have completed necessary research and plans for their next handheld but have to wait until the DS dies out before announcing/launching. It is time for the next handheld in terms of tech advancement, but as long as the DS has popularity we'll be stuck with it.
Oh 'we' is mostly those who also feel a new handheld should be released, and i'm sure Nintendo may be a part of that as well.

The good thing about the DS is that it it fits nicely in your pocket (especially with the lite). make it any bigger though, and it will probably crush your nuts every time you move a muscle.

I think having the dual touchscreens is more aimed at the stupid people who spent the first few minutes tapping the top screen wondering why nothing is happening until they have to be told only the bottom screen works.
