Capcom's Monster Hunter is being hailed as the main reason why PSP has edged past the 10 million sales mark in Japan.
It's taken Sony's handheld just over three and a half years (hitting Japan in December 2004) to reach the milestone, according to Famitsu (via Kotaku).
The top two games on the system, by a long shot, are both Monster Hunter titles. Monster Hunter 2nd G has shifted almost 2.4 million copies, with the similarly-named Monster Hunter 2nd clocking up 1.7 million sales. Crisis Core trails in third on just under 800,000 sales, which isn't bad considering it hasn't been out that long.
Then it's more Monster Hunter Portable, with just under 670,000 sales and Phantasy Star Portable with 550,000.
Great news for Sony. Even if the DS soared past the 20 million mark in Japan last year, with worldwide sales now topping 77 million.
I don't get the appeal of Monster Hunter. I know you take down dirty evil monsters in loads of other games. But from what I've seen from Monster Hunter, you just go about picking on monsters which are just minding their own business - whether they eat other monsters or not.
Like a glorified African big game hunting simulator... Maybe I'm missing the point.
I can't imagine why. I've got the first Monster Hunter, and it's a nice idea but crippled to near the point of unplayability by its diabolical controls.

Its kind of like Fifa has often been in this country, sells huge amounts despite often having problems that almost completely ruin the game (not so much the newer Fifas admittedly).
he just had to tack in the bit about the ds there. just had to its like he couldnt help himself. geez people. Why cant they just talk about one without mentioning the other? the psp was clearly marketed differently at a different target audience at a significantly higher price.
