Justin Cook, lead designer of Trouble in Paradise at Rare, has hinted at plans that the Viva Piñata series is going to be taking a break once the upcoming DS and 360 games are released.
"We don't have any plans for DLC," Cook told a Rare fansite. "As far as the team is concerned we are taking a break from VP for a while to make something new."
Surprising news considering Microsoft is still pursuing the holy grail that is a casual yet very mainstream audience. He covered his ass though, adding, "But things change quickly in the software industry so next week it may be a completely different story." Well done.
If you're a biog VP fan we suggest you hit the link and read the full interview. Cook knows his Piñatas.
Wonder what they will do if Viva Pinata 2 sells well? I never played the game (too colourful) but it was original and you have to admire that.
Rare should now start work on the remake of Perfect Dark for this generation.
Viva was a good game, but not my cup of tea(but it had many fans).
Rare have already done a perfect dark 360 game(perfect dark zero).
We have banjo coming(new game and updated n64 port for xbl), so i'd like them to come up with some new stuff(kameo 2 might be coming, but it's another sequel).
Sadly a comment that seems to be truer with every new Rare game. I sincerely hope that the new Banjo game proves this not to be the case though. Sadly, it seems that Rare are one of those 'former glory' companies.

I'm still hoping that Rare are making a bit of a resurgance. The new Viva looks fantastic and, although it's not a game that appeals to me; I can really see it being a big hit with a lot of people - the original is a truly clever game with a lot of depth and they've added some great stuff to this one (the cards etc).
The new Banjo looks amazing too - I'm pretty sure they want to make sure they don't drop the ball in any way with that one.
Still - after these, a new IP for me. Perfect Dark was never a big thing for me, I never liked Killer Instinct (after reading lots of comments on that game, I'm beginning to wonder what I missed - really popular game with a lot of you guys!).
I'd like them to revive Killer Instinct for this gen. I know I'd buy it.
Killer instinct was balls!
See, that's how I remember it - but, there are lots of people on here who quite obviously loved it.
I think it may have been caught in there with games like Primal Rage and Rise of the Robots (quite simply; the WORST game I have ever had the misfortune to play).....we had some seriously shoddy beat 'em ups back then.
Anyone remember Shadow Fighter or Panzer Kick Boxing?
Viva Pinata 3?!? As far as I'm concerned they have not even started work on Viva Pinata 2 because Trouble in Paradise is nothing more than an expantion pack from what I have seen so not worth counting. I was excited about it as I have the original but unfortunately it turned to be mothing more than an expantion pack.
