Make awesome LBP levels, get job at Media Molecule

Dev "watching closely" for potential recruitments in LBP community
LittleBigPlanet dev Media Molecule will be "watching closely" to recruit the best community designers to work as part of the dev team, it told CVG.

Speaking in a recent interview, producer Pete Smith also dismissed previous concerns that it would enforce a charge on the best user created content.

"We've got plans for the future which I can't talk about," said Smith when we asked about the potential of users charging for levels.

"If a user becomes known as being great at making levels, I can't say we wouldn't but I don't think we'd want to take his level and then charge people for it, because it's free - that's the whole premise of the game."

He added: "However, we will be aware of who those awesome designers are and certainly there's the potential to get them building levels as part of the dev team."

Smith went on to explain the potential for a number of users to be "commissioned" to work on levels. "I think if we were gonna do that we'd rather get the top ten guys and commission them to make some amazing stuff for us," he told us at the Leipzig Games Convention last month.

And you might even land a job on the team. "But we'll be watching it closely, because it'll be a great way for us to recruit great new designers," said Smith.

Look for the full interview on these pages soon.

Well that's fantastic news for some undiscovered talent. That'll be me, then.

Seriously though, who knows? One minute you could be spouting a load of nonsense in these forums, and the next minute, working for MM. If that doesn't get people excited about creating a LBP masterpiece, then nothing will.

I can't honestly wait to get cracking with this game.

Yes! I can't wait to get started Very Happy

That will sell more copies of the game too with this added incentive. Clever marketing there.

So all the years of playing video games could finally pay off for someone.

To be honest, i prefer to be creative on my own schedule. I like to sometimes write games reviews and make wallpaper/sigs for my ps3/computer/forums etc and i enjoy it, however as soon as it becomes a job i lose interest. I will certainly make my own stuff on LBP and hopefully it will be popular, however if the opportunity ever did come around to work for MM like the article describes i dont think id take them up on the offer.

A very interesting and potentially beneficial stance. XNA for MS has proven very successful and is seeing game development for the pc and 360 an increasingly common occurence at universities. Considering the PS3's linux facilities, I wonder if the team would be open to allowing low level programming access via an sdk IDE so that people could use the facilities to develop much wider range of game genres.

Seriously? I don't think it would have to be permanent, if that's how you feel, but it would certainly look good on your CV!

Really cant wait for this game lol

This is one game I'm looking forward to on the PS3.

I certainly hope the hype pays off for this title, it certainly has the potential.

I don't really think i would for two reasons:

A) It would no doubt be a large commitment time wise, as ive just gotten into uni that isnt something id like to devote time to, especially as it doesnt sound like a long term position.

B) Its not in a field of work i wish to enter.

It would be a huge opportunity and one that doesn't come around everyday, however i don't personally feel its something id like to do.

Fair enough. More chance for the rest of us then, I suppose.

Anyway, you'll be far too busy drinking and shagging! Wink

I'd prefer a free level from people often more imaginative than the designers, than a priced official,
and surely the new level would be on youtube so everyone can copy it

Why is an XBOT a moderator on this site? Media Molecule are offering someone who can be creative a job, and this t**t would rather sit at home writing his gay little reviews that no one cares about. What is this world coming to? *sigh*

This is BIG news!
I really want to work for these guys.
I know I will, not to brag/show off, I was born to work in the gaming industry.
Hopefully I can prove it like this!

ok..say i have a nighber whom owns a ps3..and for a present i give him lbp. Rarely we play it together, and he likes to make levels, and of coures, they suck.it would be fun for a chance for me to make a map,for i am conciderd by most, a map master......and i love makeing maps.we both hate makeing maps together cause we each have different ideas, but sometimes he lets me just do it on my own.when he has stuff to do. im barly half way with my first level. POINT, is there certain damand on how fast i can make the level?
