Street Fighter IV arcade cabinets have barely touched the ground in arcade centres around the world, but a potentially game-wrecking infinite combo has been discovered.
Performed with Al Fuerte, one of the game's new characters, the combo appears to be a series of simple punches - although according to forum-goers it's tougher to perform than it looks.
Infinite combos are defined as combos that a player can perform to completely kill their opponent in one go. They are also frowned upon. A bit like a mate that keeps kicking you in the shins to score a win.
We can only hope Capcom patches this out for the console versions expected out later this month.
Take a look at the combo used to win both rounds in this video.
Seriously, that's why modern beat-em ups just suck, they always have these retarded 20 hit or so combos that can kill a player in one attack, or at least reduce them to basically no health.
This is the whole point of releasing arcade games first nowadays, treat them like a beta. When it's time to release Street Fighter IV onto the home consoles (where most of the money is) then most of these bugs/glitches will be sorted out.
Absolutely right!...this is exactly why they put the cabs in arcades so that they can let the general public beta test the game to find any bugs and get feedback to help with fine tuning the gameplay.
I can't tell from the video how that combo is any worse than a normal one. It was only four hits or so.
I agree. To me it just looked like his opponent was a bit rubbish.
It's that punch he does a few times in a row. It could go on until the other fighter dizzies then he just does it again and again. Hopefully it'll be sorted for console... And...

The game looks awesome anyway. I read a rumour that a new Marvel Vs Capcom is in production. Seems a liitle soon after SF4 but I can't help but think how fantastic it would be.
The opponent was Akuma, who tends to take more damage and dizzy faster than other characters to balance his powerful offence. I'll wait until i see it performed on a variety of characters before i pass judgement.

Eeeer, whut?
I was wondering the same thing. This must be a mistake or at the very least a jap release, even then translation would be a piece of pish.

It must be a mistake. I'm sure we won't see Street Fighter IV on any consoles until early 2009. Even then I'm not expecting there to be much of a (if any) gap between a Japanese release and a US, European release.
"Game breaking infinite combo"? CVG seriously know how to blow things out of proportion. I would hardly call a 3-5 hit combo infinite and destroying game balance. Definitely nothing to get worked up about and the game isn't even out yet so it'll be gone on home release. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8ilBJESBKI That is a real infinite combo.
I think the point is that if you get hit by the first punch, it CANNOT be stopped until you go dizzy and it gets repeated to infinity until you die. It's not a real combo so what did you expect, some sort of fancy move? It's not an intended feature, thus it looks lame as it is and not fancy. It's a bug, it's done with simple moves, it cannot be stopped and it will cost you the match 100% of the time unless you manage to avoid said first puch every time it's attempted in the game. That is why it's game breaking. The SC infinite combo will only work if the opponent does not use air control, this one will (I assume) work on any opponent unless, again, he never gets hit by the first punch.

My thoughts exactly.
It's because the guy stops. In theory that combo could go on forever.
Capcom has told Eurogamer that this story is rubbish and it was more or less down to the skill of the player. In my opinion, Soul Calibur 4 has some of the cheapest moves outhere, and enough skill-less scumbags on live that uses them.

Or lack of skill of the opponent. People were saying on other boards that it looked like there may be frames where you could escape but the Gouki player wasn't doing anything. But to be honest, the Capcom denial on Eurogamer seems a bit weak. They claim it's 'technically' not an infinite because the opponent dizzies but I don't see how it makes a difference. In theory you could just rinse and repeat until the round is won. It's still the same thing in the end. Doesn't mean the game is broken though. You have to see how tournaments go first. Not all characters with an infinite suddenly become unbeatable. If Fuerte ends up winning every tourny thanks to this then it's something to worry about.
If it is true then I don't think it's anything to worry about. I should think Capcom will just release an upgrade to iron it out. Namco did it with Tekken 5.1 when it was discovered that Steve had an infinite juggle.
At the very least it will be sorted for the home versions if it really is a big problem in the arcades.
