Activision is to award the first ever copy of Call of Duty: World at War to eight-times gold medallist swimmer Michael Phelps, because - apparently - he's a big fan of the series.
The surprise gift was handed to Phelps on CBS News in the US this morning, though according to developer Treyarch the PS3 copy in the Olympic champion's hands on the TV show was an 'I O U'. Yes - an empty box.
"As it turns out, Michael Phelps is a big Call of Duty fan, so we wanted to give him the first copy of CoD:WW," said Treyarch on its official site. "It's well deserved.
"Now what you didn't see is the "I O U" card that was contained within =D... Yes, unfortunately the game isn't quite finished yet, but it's close. We'll be sending Michael the first disc off the production line though later this year, we promise!"
Treyarch went on: "Congratulations Michael on your outstanding performance in the pool this year, and we wish you continued success in the future. See you on the battlefield!"
If any CoD fans want the new version early then, all you've got to do is go and win eight Olympic gold medals. We're going to sit in our chairs and wait for the retail date, ta.
Watch the whole video - fake box and all - on CBS's website.
If he has the complete game now, then why the hell dont they release it now already...what are they going to be doing for the next 2 months before release?
