Gears 2 "85/90%" complete

And Gears 3 will be "a disco town", says Cliff Bleszinski
Gears of War 2 is "85/90%" complete, series mastermind and PR pet Cliff Bleszinski has revealed.

The 360-exclusive sequel joins other first-party efforts Viva Pińata: Trouble in Paradise, which is almost in the shops, and Fable II, which is (apparently) finished and 'gold'.

Speaking to Xbox World 360, Cliffy said, "We're basically at the 85/90% polish stage right now, doing some last minute optimisations.

"I boot the game up every morning and go through campaign mode, making sure it's all stitched together and batshit insane." Lovely.

Mr. B also made comment on Gears' now infamous grey colour palette, promising that the second is a least a bit more colourful.

"We kind of actively aimed for the de-saturated look, but its since become de riguer for this generation of games," said the chainsaw-gun man. "I think that's why something like Mirror's Edge has become kind of like an oasis in the desert of E3 - 'Look! There's a red crate! I love you!'

"We actually have a little more colour in Gears 2 - reds, oranges. Hopefully you've noticed. What I can tell you is that if there was a Gears 3 it'll be a total disco town: purples, pinks and greens everywhere!"

Gears number 2 is out on November 7. Read the fully interview with Bleszinski in Xbox World 360 issue 70, in shops tomorrow.

all stitched together and bats**t insane

Its good to see a developer that actually personally tests their games before sending them out, i could swear that some games this gen were never tested before release, thats the only was i can imagine such blisteringly obvious glitches and flaws going un-noticed.

That's all good - incidentally, my working day is now 49% complete!

Right now I care 50%/100% less for GOW 2 than I did 2 days ago.

Gears 2 is going to Rock. And I like the idea of Cliff going through the Campaign everyday to iron out any glitches, can you imagine if the Devs for Turning Point were made to play thought their game? Lots of grown men would be crying.
StonecoldMC on 2 Sep '08
Maybe he should give me a copy so i can also play throught campain everyday and see if i can find any glitches Very Happy

i suspect everything gets tested its just whether they decide to fix or release with the known bugs in. i imagine every software provider releases with known issues, the one i work for certainly does.

The game's gonna be f**king cool and you all know it despite many of the sulking PC gamers trying to make out they're not bottomd about it now that it's been confirmed as a 360 exclusive.

Or maybe because you aint got anything better to do other than read a topic about a game and then say you arent intrested in it?

I mean what made you dislike it in 2 days?

What has happened since then?

Sigh, not so much the game, but the fact that there won't be a PC conversion. If the reverse were true you'd probably say something similar. I'm not saying it's going to be a bad game, it's just that I'm not interested as I once was for the reasons stated above!

Happy now? I take it then that if GOW 2 was a PC exclusive 360 fanboys wouldn't be sulking then? I don't think so, do you really need to be so precious?

You're acting like a bunch of Sony fanboys,I thought you lot were above all that, way to let the side down, I say!

Erm, i was also disapointed that there was no PC version.

I mean i own all the consoles plus a very powerfull PC.

I really enjoyed Gears PC.

But since its a 360 game Originally i can understand that they want to 100% focus on the 360 version.

Also the PC version didnt do that good in sales and was very buggy.

So your wrong, id have actually bought both versions but if i had to chose it would be the 360 one for obvious reasons.
shiwayb on 2 Sep '08
The guy always has something interesting to say and fails to bore unlike many other guys trying to do PR for their games.
Also nice to know he's constantly playing through the game himself to make sure it meets his standards. If only all developers did that, we'd be blessed with less s**te games. Laughing

You can guess the ages of people who appreciate Spliffy E's mouth pumps. Still, I can't wait to try the horde mode, so I won't hold my derision towards the fool against him.

Or in other words:

Cliffy B is a flange. Regardless, Gears 2 is going to be spliffing.

That either means that there'll be no Gears 3 or it'll be set in the 60s or 80s. I'm holding you to that Bliff! Very Happy
