Infinite Ward has said to expect a double XP (experience points) weekend for Call of Duty 4 on the weekend of September 12-14.
A Double XP weekend basically means that, during a limited period, all XP earned during online games is doubled, allowing you to scream up the ranks real quickly and unlock some of those much-needed perks.
"I'm currently working on getting everything organized and together for an upcoming Xbox Live / PSN promotion we have coming up the weekend of Sept. 12th - 14th," teases IW in its official CoD4 blog.
"I will have exact details on what it is in the near future but I have a gut feeling it'll have Double XP attached to it for all those hungry for some power-levelling on Call of Duty 4."
New playlists may also arrive on the same weekend, it goes on to say. "This promotion is technically unrelated to the new Playlists, but I won't lie that my hope is to finish them up in time so that we can make it all one big promotion.
"Our awesome QA team and producers are helping me push hard to make it happen by the weekend of the big promotion, no promises, but as always I'll keep you updated on the progress."
Have those controllers powered up and internet connections ready for a battering.
with no extra reward after 10 prestige or anything inbetween, theres no point in playing after lvl55. except for fun. incentives to rank up - which leads to nothing - is absolutely pointless.
To be fair though that applies to the extreme hardcore only. I'll gladly take a boost in rank!
I wish i could even be bothered! Ranking up holds no attraction to me at all - i mean it's a great fun game and all that - but just what is the point of spending endless hours just to increase your rank???? What for???? Why????
i dont understand why they didnt give the pc a prestige mode. was it some kind of childish jab at us? ranking means nothing, and this double xp crap is completely pointless. you can advace in rank quickly enough as it is, using retard perks like marty - which all the low rankers do anyway. this is stupid and someone needs to bitch slap infinity around the face
I think infinity ward have been pretty crap when it comes to dlc for cod4. Its been nearly a year now and theres only been 1 map pack and soon a few new playlists big deal. im sure most people are craving new maps, weapons, perks and higher prestige.
As a fairly hardcore PC player of CoD4 I'll just add my tuppence worth.
looking at my current gameplay data i've been on single player for around 22 hours (played through around 3 times).
Multiplayer has eaten up 366 hours of my life so far.

Due to the nature of how servers work on the PC we can play any maps in any mode we want - swapping maps at will (if that's what you mean by playlists). We have all sorts of modded content for it - available everywhere on the net. Hundreds of maps and mods. Our 'new' map pack was free thanks to a deal IW did with Nvidia, i liek!
Now, the thing is, on the PC, your little CoD4 MP guy goes up to rank 55 and that's that - no prestige, no little crosses - zilch.
It's a better game because of it.
Hit 55, get all the perks and start working through the headshots for the gold plated boom sticks - that's it. total score still keeps clocking up on the stats sheet - good enough for me.
My main aim is to be at the top of my side's leaderboard when i hit tab and shortly thereafter see the end of round win screen.
Well administrated servers are alway populated - the largest I've been on had 52 slots.
Our CoD4 voice chat is not sinking in a sea of some random players' trash talk. It's a tactical aid for us - there's minimal irrelevent chatter. We play it for the sheer joy of besting our friends and total strangers, not for achievements lol.
My favourite mode is hardcore search and destroy - it's a natural successor to the ageing Counter-Strike: Source
PS Do you console gamers have rules against bunny-hopping, prone diving or no noobtubes? Just curious.
PC didn't get the extras like prestige mode because it's to easy to edit to be honest. The stats are not server stored I believe.

Personally I like prestige mode, it adds alot of playtime to the game. Yeah I play Multiplayer games for the fun of it but it's always good to have something to aim for. Prestige mode is great for people like me but on the xbox/ps3 at least we have the option. They should have put it in the PC version just in case people WANTED to use it.
As for modded content, I used to say I wished MS would allow such things but now I am against console user made mods (Excluding built in-game editors)
Thinking back to my PC gaming days I remember having to look around to get maps/mods/etc to get the best of games and I really couldn't be bothered anymore as I spent half my time downloading X mod so I could play with my friends...Also trainers became a big issue for me.
PC's will always be for the hardcores. I guess I'm just more casual nowdays. And I don't mind paying for DLC because the piracy issue on the PC cost IW enough someone had to pay them
