Capcom: PS3 in "full swing"

Success of Metal Gear Solid 4 praised alongside future line-up
Capcom has released a transcript of a conference call it held for the firm's Q1 results. The first question asks whether PS3's install base is yet big enough for the release of a whopper like Resident Evil 5.

"We believe that PS3 has finally reached full swing after looking at the success of Metal Gear Solid 4, as well as future large-scale title line-ups," reads the response. "In addition, some reduction in the PS3's price was announced at the 2008 E3, and we can expect its spread to increase by next March when our Resident Evil 5 for PS3 will be released.

"Moreover, as we are not only focusing on PS3, we would also like to spread our supply of software evenly between Wii and Xbox 360 while their markets in the world increase in a similar manner to PS3."

And can a new Resident Evil stand out in an overcrowded horror-action genre? "The Resident Evil series has strong brand power and a special game concept, which builds a new view of the world that you can't find in any other games.

"Capcom is not all that concerned about competition with distribution titles, since the quality of our Resident Evil 5 is also being enhanced. Rather, we are at the stage of devising strategies to expand its sales further."

But what about the firm's stance on games come movies? "The company does not intend to bear any risk in the movie business, so we will basically develop the business through licensing, recording royalty fees as profits.

"However, as with Street Fighter, we may partially finance the projects. Our strategy is to increase sales and gain recognition for our game software through the synergistic effects of advertising and promotion achieved by releasing game software together with movies."

All looking good then Capcom. Download the full thing here. But you'll find the best bits above.

Capcom still developing for PS3 shocker!

wow, what a waste of webspace. that was a totally pointless article. Rolling Eyes
hows about wasting some space on some reviews. instead of just ripping them from the pages of PSM or XBOXworld hows about you just do them yourselves. it would keep you busy and you wouldn't have to write 200 word essay's on s**te like "capcom think PS3 big now DURRP".
you don't even seem to have reviewed the games that came out last week. infact i'll throw one in for you
Tiger Woods 09
Nearly the same as last years but with slight improvements. Buy it if you've, (A) not got a golf game, (B) want to play it online, or (C) just got to own every version out there.
7.8 good but not different enough to warrant full purchase.
see, easy and more informative than the drivel you've just posted.

if this is "full swing" - with LBP, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 being about the biggest (and only...) PS3 exclusives around, then I weep for the future.

You may want to put Motorstorm 2, Infamous, God of War 3 and Heavy Rain in that little pipe, before you smoke it. Sounds like a swing that I would like to be on.

Didn't say they were awe inspiring. And I didn't ask - just pointed out my opinion on the matter.

If there's anybody who can get what's needed out of a Sony console, it's Capcom.

add drakes fortune 2, lost frontier, wardevil, ico 3, Dc Universe, The Agency, Tekken 6, free realms, Afrika, Valkyria Chronicle, possibly LA Noire

To say the ps3 has no exclusives is a bit silly

Im just waiting for a PS3 price cut myself, and a few more classic games, some of the above especially.

Although Socom may warrant the purchase, but the PS3 still needs to come down in price imo.I never wrote off Sony, its just taking them a bit longer.

Defo worth the wait and a must have console also.

to be honest out of all those games the only one's that interest me are Uncharted 2 (which is still unconfirmed) Wipeout HD and possibly Tekken 6, if they can sort out the online. plus DC universe will probably be canned before the years out.

Oh its great isn't it

What is?

Oh just the fact PS3 is in full swing with the only big exclusive on it being MGS4. Pretty impressive hey. Meanwhile the 360 has thrown out all its big 'exclusives' and FPS's (Mass Effect, Halo 3, PGR3, Bioshock etc etc snore) the system is still trailing the PS3 all over the world this year by a massive haemorraghing deficit.

Can you imagine what will happen when PS3 is brought down to the economy price-point of the 360? (sub £200)

Can you imagine the chaos at Gamestation when the geeks get wind of the fact the console's price has been slashed and all those triple AAA exclusives have landed?

There is only one winner in this war, and you didn't believe me did you

I don't know - it seems to be doing fairly well at the moment, certainly looks further into development than Marvel Universe was. I thought that Europe wasn't getting Afrika?

LA Noire is definitely the one I'd be wanting out of that list. It really surprises me that people still love the likes of Tekken and Wipeout - they excite me about as much as Oasis and, just like Oasis; they really needed to stay in the 90's! - mind you, it wouldn't really be a Sony console without them.

It would be nice to see some better games on ps3.

There's some decent games coming out, but according to metacritic the ps3 is still trailing the 360 in every genre of game.
The ps3 should be ahead by now(i'm not talking boring sales stats here), but it's still miles behind in terms of quality releases out there at the moment(retail and downloable games).

Hopefully within a year or 2 the ps3 can topple the 360 in terms of higher rated games.

i'd heard Afrika was canned in europe as well. at least anyone that wants it can import it. as for tekken and wipeout, your right that it wouldn't be a sony console without them. but tekken really needs a good online side if i'm going to even consider it,especially after the laggy games i've had of dark resurrection. and a proper HD wipeout, running at 60fps should be worth a look.
as for DC universe i hope it does come out because we need to see how a MMORPG works on a home console. is Huxley even coming out for the 360 anymore? it was the first one announced but since then nothing.
and oasis should have stopped at the second album

Ah, Tekken and Wipeout are all good - just not my cup of tea these days. I do remember spending hours on both Tekken 2 and Wipeout 2097 on the PS1.

DC Universe will be an interesting thing. I saw some previews in a recent Edge and it looks to be moving along quite nicely - hopefully, we will finally get to see how an MMORPG will work on consoles.....I'm pretty sure the floodgates would open after that.

You have to wonder what would happen if Sony or Microsoft got exclusivity on WoW?

Yet people are posting comments like "Nothing there interests me". Are you even gamers? Do you like anythng?

Okay, so people don't like the large and interesting PS3 line-up. So what's so great about the 360 line-up? Someone care to do a comparison?

Whilst I don't dispute that those may well be goodn games, they're mostly quite some way off yet (or unconfirmed) so including them in any kind of statement about the PS3 being in full swing seems kind of premature.

And hey, look Suivaloom! I can underline things and put them in different colours too! But it doesn't make my argument any stronger!

Actually, I think the lineups for both consoles are looking pretty great. There's not that much that interests me on the PS3 exclusive lineup- save for a couple like Heavy Rain and Wipeout HD- while the 360 has a handful of interesting titles (again, for me) but there are plenty of great-looking multiplatform releases coming soon for both.

I'd be interested to see the comparison, though.

well if microsoft got a hold of it Suivaloom would probably have a mental breakdown and start jibbering to himself,,,, oh wait that already happens. but WoW on a home console with exclusive rights would probably tip the scales in its favor. just as well it'll probably never happen.
i'll be keeping an eye on DC universe just to see how it works on consoles but not being the biggest DC fan it doesn't really appeal to me.

the old myth about ps3 having no games or lower quality games is outdated

This weeks most played on Xbox Live stats:
1 Call of Duty 4
2 Halo 3
3 GTA IV
4 Star Wars: TFU Demo
5 Gears of War
6 Madden NFL 09
7 Castle Crashers
8 Guitar Hero III
9 Rock Band
10 Battlefield: Bad Company

So granted, there are a handful of multiplatform titles in there (and I dont know how this compares with the PS3 stats, since I have no idea where I could find them) but the problem with a lot of multplatform games (though not all!) is that PS3 titles still tend to be inferior to their 360 cousins from dodgy ports. Like I said, its not always the case, but its still an issue.

as someone who owns all 3 consoles at the moment i have to say that there's not much on all 3, exclusive wise, that interest me. all the good games are usually multiformat so take that as you will. other than gears 2(which i'm not too bothered about either)and LBP i can't even think of another exclusive this year thats gonna be huge for either console. i'm not counting the wii in that list though because all those casual games are exclusives and most people lap those up.

Those mutliplatform titles are, yes, with the notable exception of the Force Unleashed, which has a really appalling PS3 port judging by the demo (which doesn't even support digital sound... sigh). But the multiplatform thing is still an issue with a lot of games, sadly, so I don't think it can be written off as a thing of the past just yet. Soon, though, I hope. I'd actually like to have more of a balanced choice in which console I buy a game for ;D

what improved controller? its been the same shape since the 90's. it still gives me cramp after extended play. stupid position for the left stick. and the motion sensor hardly ever gets used except for a small gimmick that usually doesn't work. and on what are you basing your great prediction. because you bought one?

Really? It does take a while to get into, I don't know how long the demo gives you of the game, but I'm completely hooked. It takes me right back to all the old skool hack & slash I used to play on the mega drive, and still play on emulation.

No detriment to the quality of the game, but I was never a hack and slash fan anyway.

I also downloaded the Star wars demo off PSN and whilst I thought the game was a bit tedious, I never noticed any framerate issues. In fact, the best thing going for it was the sharp and smooth visuals. Odd.

That multiplatform problem is the thing of the psat, and unless you run through still screens with a fine come or have a debug seting on so you can see 1 or 2 dropped frames then you would never notice, untill its brought up by the pretentious jerks at eurogamer Rolling Eyes

You idiot. Both GTAIV and Soul Calibur 5 are better on the PS3 than the 360.

* GTAIV on 360 has horrendous pop-up and load-time issues due to lack of hard drive
* SC5 on 360 has framerate issues and the seriously unbalanced fighter Yoda.

Don't come out with these ludicrous slurs against the PS3 and expect to get away with it scot-free

Boll-locks.

GTAIV 360 does indeed have some pop up. Though the load times are actually about the same between them, the 360 version actually boots into the game faster from startup, theres a nice comparison vid somewhere to illustrate the point. Both versions have horrible framerate issues, though, and the 360 version only just makes up for its weird film grain type filter with its antialiasing, which the PS3 version lacks. But really, it looks pretty mediocre on either console.

SC5 doesnt even exist, but assuming you mean SCIV, the 360 version has no framerate issues that i've ever seen- and I've played both copies extensively, thankyouverymuch- and citing Yoda as a reason for the 360 version being weaker is, lets be honest, a severe case of clutching at straws. Besides, the smart money says both Yoda and Vader will ultimately be available in both versions of the game.

Don't come out with these ludicrous slurs against the PS3 and expect to get away with it scot-free

I wish someone would tell you that about the 360. Oh wait! they have! Repeatedly!

Earth to Suivaloom more like Razz
There was a good video comparison on a gaming site rating the 360 and ps3 GTAIV side by side, the 360 version came out top.
So come on, get it right!

Soul calibur 5 i've not played, so i can't speak for that.
Although i think darth vadar is going to appear as a downloadable character for the game if you're sad enough to actually care.

The 360 has proved in the various reviews that it tends to be the better version when comparing the same game side by side.
The majority of games these days are mostly identicle though.
blagger on 3 Sep '08

I also downloaded the Star wars demo off PSN and whilst I thought the game was a bit tedious, I never noticed any framerate issues. In fact, the best thing going for it was the sharp and smooth visuals. Odd.

Have you tried the 360 version? I played one after the other, (yes, on the same TV) and the comparison was not favourable. The PS3 version is noticeably sluggish in controls and visuals in comparison.

I'm not being funny here, but I've given up on caring about tiny differences. If a game is rubbish, then it is rubbish regardless of any discrepances.

I completely agree- but the difference was very noticeable. I played the 360 version first and quite enjoyed it, even to the extent that I'm now slightly interested in it, and might rent it when it comes out, whereas before I had no interest whatsoever.

When I first played the PS3 version a couple of days later, I wondered just what I had been smoking. The game was dreadful. Firing up the 360 version again, no, it wasn't, it was just the performance and controls on the PS3 port.

And did I mention the PS3 version didn't support digital audio? I'm still bitter about that. Had to quick the damn game, and change the bloody settings to hear anything >.<

You said :

PS3 titles still tend to be inferior to their 360 cousins from dodgy ports. Like I said, its not always the case, but its still an issue.

This is a ridiculous fanboy comment of the highest order.

1. The biggest game of the last 5 years, Grand Theft Auto IV, was released on both PS3 and 360. It is generally accepted that the PS3 version is the "superior port" due to the aforementioned problems with loading and pop-up on the 360 version.

2. The recently released multi-platform Soul Calibur IV is generally accepted as being slightly superior on PS3, as a game-breaking character like Yoda in a fighting game IS a big issue. You tell a hardcore fight fan what version on console he'd prefer out the two, and he will tell you the PS3 version is better as Vader is not ridiculously unbalanced.

Now argue with me all day, I think I have embarrassed you yet again and made a mockery of your argument.

Wow. Guess I got you all riled up about something, eh, since this has suddenly turned into a personal attack on me?

1. Grand Theft Auto IV has, according to your beloved Metacritic, even ratings. So thats a pile of pish; the differences are utterly negligible- to the extent that the only difference (look, i can do Bold too!) I have ever noticed from playing the game on the PS3 and the 360 is the slightly more jagged edges on the PS3 version which lacks Antialiasing. Hardly a big deal. So I'd class both versions pretty much equal here.

2. As pointed out, Yoda is most likely destined to appear on the PS3 as well, and Vader on 360, which will make both versions the same. But considering half the cast of Soul Calibur IV are unbalanced anyway, whats one more into the mix? Its hardly a fair and even fighting game. So once again, moot point. Its a draw, folks!

And thats only two games. Care to mention some more? no? Oh, right. Can we just shut up and leave this well alone now, then, for the sake of everyone?
berelain on 3 Sep '08
The only way in which the PS3 is superior to anything is in how it obviously emits that mind-ray which turns most of it's owners into slavering moronic idiots.

Don't worry though, I've come up with a simple fix. Simply keep the base unit enclosed in a lead-lined box and never turn it on.

From what I understand of most PS3 owners they never turn it on except to watch films, but go the extra step and block out the harmfuol rays and see what a difference it makes to your life.

You might even end up going outside and seeing a real girl in the flesh suvivaloom.

no you just say that the PS3 version are superior and expect everyone to take it as gospel. i think if you had a valid point or contributed to an arguement with your eyes open then perhaps people wouldn't round on you like your saying. you just come on here say whatever s**te your gonna say then call everyone an idiot for not agreeing. you are the second coming of vercetti now p**s off before the mods crucify you the same way they did him. if you've got something to say wait 10 minutes then write it down on a bit of paper, take all the fanboy points out, all the slagging other people out, then read it back to yourself. if you've even got half a sentence left i'd be surprised. seriously grow up. you act like a 10 year old who's been told that someone else's daddy can batter your daddy.

I don't know, I can imagine quite a bit.

Ahh, i see what you've done here. Very clever. You've cunningly insulted me to provoke a response, whilst at the same time insinuating that, should I make a response, I would be foolish for going back on my own wishes.

What should I do, what should I do?

Maybe, I should just point out that I don't regard myself as anti-PS3 or pro-360. I consider myself a fairly neutral party. I have thoroughly enjoyed the games I have played on my PS3. I have thoroughly enjoyed the games I have played on my 360. I am quite prepared to accept that the 360 has major hardware flaws with its reliability and reliance on optional peripherals. I am equally willing to accept that the PS3 has so far not pulled its weight in many regards. I am just as willing to pay for the superior xbox live service as I am willing to praise the free PSN service and what it offers. Ackowledging these points does not make me a fanboy of either machine.

It does, however, make you look like a rather narrowminded idiot. Why does it have to be a war? a competition? Why must you be right, and everyone else wrong, when the majority of these discussions are purely a matter of opinion?

Tell you what, fine. I'll back down, if that'll make you happy. Because I cannot be bothered to have this utterly pointless argument any longer.
berelain on 3 Sep '08
Don't back down Berelain, you're perfectly entitled to say whatever you want.

This bloke's probably riled up because the news hit recently that the PS3 is a failure becuase Sony have now officially lost more money on the PS3 than they made with the PS2, and more then they'll ever make back and the only thing they can do now is damage limitation by minimizing their losses on the bad venture.

I just regret buying mine, it's a bad investment that'll never pay off. Lucky my housemate bought a Xbox 360 for us to game on this year while we're waiting for the PC heavy hitters top arrive next month.

As for Berelein - I respect the approach that you took (and took again in your subsequent post) to try and deal with the matter but I imagine you're fighting a losing battle. You might as well just walk away with the moral high ground. You'll never get a sensible answer or discussion.

Hey, I'd like to interrupt this fascinating conversation for a second to ask CVG if they'd perform a few small upgrades on their site, most importantly some media extensions for the forums.

Wouldn't it be amazing if Suivaloom had his own theme tune that played every time he made a post?

My vote's for "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor.

Anyway, battle on you brave Crusader you, Suivaloom. You know I've got your back all the way.

If they could do that, could I maybe have the Ulysses 31 theme tune playing every time I made a post?

Yeah, but you're out of luck _Marty_ - ensabahnur (is that a reference to Apocalypse?) has already dibbed it.

You'll have to take Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds

PS3 is much better value than the Xbox 360 and with games like Little Big Planet and being able to play blu ray films, and the bigger storage capacity, improved controller, I can see Sony overtaking Microsoft sales wise pretty soon!

Don't forget the built in wifi!

A year or 2??? how about now:

PS3 has more higher rated games than tthe 360 or wii

And I coudnt agree more I'd rather the PS3 exclusives over the xbox ones now... but in the future i'm sure i will be extremly happy with most of the ps3 exclusives.

Just a little extra! Razz

Sorry bud, but metacritic beats some guy's blog every time.

I just had a quick look at the metacritic numbers, and blagger had it right first time.

Oh, and I'm pleased for you that the fact that the PS3 version of some golf game scored 7, vs the 6.5 score of the X360 version. Obviously newsworthy...

But reading the figures...

Xbox 360 has 374 titles in total, 86 of them received good rankings

Playstation 3 has 122 titles to its name, and 40 have been rated good

so while the ratios stack up in favour of the PS3, the fact remains that, by the bloggers own admission, there are more than twice as many good games on the 360. Way to prove your point, there.

I would just like to apologise to everyone. I realise now that I have a serious mental illness that causes me to make irrational and totally ignorant comments without first considering the facts.
I also understand now that my previously-beloved PS3 is in fact a machine with some very severe problems, and I appreciate that it is no better or worse than the Xbox 360, which I now believe to be a perfectly decent machine.
I would like to apologise for my numerous ignorant and troll-like comments, and I promise that I will never again grace these forums because I realise that I am not capable of making a rational and mature statement.
I would also like to announce that I like to wear lace panties. I like the feeling of the lace on my skin. Ooooooooh.

Do you mean the rules that are blatantly ignored by some of the mods?
I love the mods - seriously, they generally come across as decent blokes. But it frustrates me when they don't enforce the 'rules'. Come on, Suiv has breached those guidelines god knows how many times and has any action been taken against him?

If I remember rightly, the CVG mods don't have any jurisdiction over the Article Comments forum - it's only the site admins.

Oh here we go the xbots have all sent a PM to each other and told to jump on the lonely PS fan in the forums.

You cowards.

I don't care how many of you there are, you don't intimidate me.

I can't believe you are trying to argue and say PS3 does not boast the superior ports of GTA5 and SCIV.

If some neutral observer came to this forum they'd no doubt agree with me.

It is generally accepted that the PS3 has the superior versions. Now you can carry out your own survey around the council-estate's you live in or whatever, I don't care.

lol, you're nuts, *message to mods - never ban him, he has extreme entertainment value*

Smile
classic. can i have centurions?
Power.....EXTREME..EME..EME...EME.......
What a class show that was.

Yeah, but you're out of luck _Marty_ - ensabahnur (is that a reference to Apocalypse?) has already dibbed it.

You'll have to take Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds

Wink
kinda half apocalypse(best villain ever) and half translation of the first one cause i've been gaming since the mid 80's. sometimes feels like i'm the oldest bugger on here.
anyway what about the Inhumaniods or Pole Position. you cannae beat 80's saturday morning cartoons for nostalgia Very Happy

Saturday mornings were brilliant as a kid - sitting on the carpet, eating toast and watching No. 73.

I don't really remember Inhumanoids, but Pole Position is a classic - anyone remember Star Fleet? (complete with Brian May theme tune)....Battle of the Planets?

I think you'd be surprised about the age thing - I'm 31 and I know that quite a few others on here are older.....what's the betting that Suivaloom is in his 30's? - we're all far too old for all this fanboy stuff, that's for sure.

Smile

hey.... now you're talking, star fleet was and is still awesome - barry hercules, shiro hagen, jon lee, x bomber etc.... that was friggin awesome and should be remade into a film, deffo the best saturday morning program when i was a kid!!! It's funny Star Fleet should come up so much, I managed to track down a complete set of the NTSC VHS tapes a few years back, that somebody had handily transferred to DVD, and have spent the better parts of last week watching them again.

I'd happily recommend the original Macross series as well, in case you've never seen it. I've got the whole damn series three times over on DVD, because they keep releasing the different regional versions in varying states of completeness. (Hopefully, now that I've got the full, uncut, digitally remastered Japanese language originals, there won't be a fourth purchase... Please?)

Cripes - you guys are never happy.
So the rules seem to be:
Stay completely on topic at all times
Don't say anything that isn't positive

Never happy, I'm telling ya.
Razz Thundercats ho!!!!!! Razz

Seroiusly tho, aren't those in the forum rules? Laughing

I think a few people need to lighten up a little.

I think we can all agree that the same old tired arguments are getting a wee bit boring these days, but I really don't think that anybody has done anything wrong here....we're just chatting in a nothing thread about Capcom....erm - what was it again?, oh yeah - something about the PS3 doing well.

Are we not allowed to play on this side of the playground?

Lighten up - it's like a witch-hunt in this place recently.

Oh so you back down now do you?

Good. You see PS fans, you don't always have to be afraid to accept the pish that is spouted on these forums about your console. Stand up for yourselves and you will reap the rewards.

It is possible to subjugate one like I have managed here with Berelein. *See above posts* Having realised the disgusting hypocrisy and utter fallacy of his claims, he asks for peace knowing continuing a war he can't win is pointless.

"I am far more powerful than you can ever imagine."

Goodbye

Wow, dude , listen to yourself, it's as if you think the PS3 is a religion or something. Calm down and just enjoy THE GAMES. That's what really matters, not silly sales figures and the like.

I'm a little younger than some of the guys here (I'm 25), but I remember Pole Position, Ulysses 31, Thundercats, Mask, He-Man, She-Ra, etc.
Funnily enough, me and my housemate had a geek night the other day and spent about 4 hours on youtube watching clips from old cartoons from when we were younger - Teddy Ruxpin, Bummi Bears, the Racoons, New Adventures of He-Man...

And it's not just the cartoons that kicked ass! Remember Knightmare? And then there was Teabag and her magic teapot. And the Storyteller.
Kids tv ftw!

That's nothing - I tend to accidentally hit the 'T' before the 'Y' a lot. Not particularly good when you contact a female colleague on MSN and ask:

'Hi, you busty?'

I literally used to love Knightmare. It was THE TV show for me when I was young, and was almost certainly responsible for me starting roleplaying...

The Raccoons was also really cool. Odd, but cool.

I recently bought my girlfriend Storyteller - she digs it.

Yeah, Knightmare was cool. Funny thing is that the memory of Knightmare just reminded me of something else that was on the BBC on Friday afternoons after school (probably about the same time that Knightmare was on ITV) - does anyone remember 'Count Me In' with that totally over-enthusiastic dancer?....I don't think anyone liked that, I know that we used to all sit on the sofa in disgust when it was on.

Storyteller? - was that the programme that had that intro music with the guy and the Lute?

'I'm the storyteller and my story must be told...' (or something like that..)

Oh....Your....God - I'd totally forgotten about that - he traded it for the ability to win any bet. I remember the scene where he bet a load of other kids that an elephant would come around the corner and do a handstand (or something like that) - he won a load of Smurfs off them.

That programme was awful! - just like Mika, anyone remember that?...it was about a kid that took a reindeer across Europe from Lapland and his 'various' adventures.

Gotta say I do actually find ol Suiv quite funny. I will even go so far as to say that at times he comes close to matching the dizzying heights of my own incisive humour.

He is not Tam though - that I am quite sure of. Suiv understands grammar, punctuation, and expression whilst Tam unfortunately exhibits no grasp of any of these concepts.

And k109 is very likely to be Vercetti IMHO. I have arrived at that conclusion through observation of his reactions to anything anti-Sony. He seemed not to be able to comprehend my decision to trade the p**s3 for the god box.

Whoa, that's weird - I totally remembered the boy who traded his laugh away, but thought it was one of the stories shown in that show, not the show itself.
Guess my memory is slightly better than I thought.

As for k109 being Vercetti - what's his join date? Should be easy enough to determine, no?
I'm with you on Tam though - Suivaloom is mad, no doubt, but can construct sentances well. Tam is clearly just a child that lacks any basic knowledge of how to lay out the written word.
