In an interview featured in the latest issue of men's magazine Esquire, former Xbox 360 top man Peter Moore recalls how he once lost his cool and said "F*** you!" to Sega dev and Sonic creator, Yuji Naka. The boardroom bust-up happened as the Dreamcast's fortunes were plummeting in the face of competition from PlayStation 2.
Moore - who helped launch Sega's ill-fated machine and was working for the company at the time - wanted to find out how consumers perceived Sega compared with other games companies. He gathered a focus group of twentysomethings and asked "If these brands were people, who would they be?" Apparently, Sega turned out to be the "granddad with dementia who used to be cool but you couldn't remember why."
Moore had tapes of the focus group dubbed in Japanese and headed to Tokyo to report the doddering image of Sega to the company's board. However, when he arrived, Yuji Naka - who Moore describes as being "a tad conceited" - accused Moore of tampering with the dialogue. "I lost it," remembers Moore. "I turned to the interpreter and said, 'Tell him, "F*** you"."
Although the translator refused to convey Moore's feelings, he was pretty sure that his message got across. "Naka had lived in the US for three years, so I knew he understood. I walked out and never returned." What a badass.
is anyone else beginning to really like Peter Moore now? i couldn't stand him when he was doing all that tattoo stuff but he seems like a laugh now. think the biggest wank in gaming award goes to Reg Fils-Arne or whatever the hell his name is.

Absolutely. I hate Reggie, always have. Apart from being a complete ar$e, he's also offensively ugly. Annoys me just by being.
And yep, Peter Moore is sound. Always liked him. When he was with Microsoft, he was the only spokesperson for any of the "big 3" who could be interviewed without making a dig at the competition or saying something profoundly stupid. Any time I've ever seen him interviewed he's been very jovial and informative. Plus he was involved with the launch of both the Dreamcast and the Xbox 360 - that's a pretty damn good track record.
I always like Peter Moore, even more so when I found out he's a fellow Scouser. I was gutted when I found he was leaving Microsoft but it doesnt stop him being cool in my books.
now reggie, good god, I hate that guy. So far up his own bottom its hard to believe!
lol good question... he 'left' Microsoft of his own free will and honest to God it had nothing to do with the RROD or the $1 billion extra Microsoft had to pay out. Now he works for EA Sport.
Sega was pretty cool in the early Dreamcast days and they did deliver a lot of good titles for the short span of the console. It was a fitting swan song. And hey, if this idiot wanted to turn Sega hip, then all the better he was kicked out. It was better to see Sega try and live up to its old self and lose instead of turn into something different altogether, which has happened anyway even without him as we can all see Sega are growing to be a rather good publisher, though they're still struggling with their in house development.
i dont think Moores that bad at least he seems down to earth, biggest dick in the industry award has to go to Cliff Bleszinski or 'Cliffy B' as he likes to be called...apparently, what a total tit, but its nice to see Mark Rein contradict him then Cliffy having to agree lol
I wonder if Yuji Naka said back to him, "F**k you, Moore! I made Sonic the Motherf**cking Hedgehog! What the f**k have you made?"
Unless you can say "Mario" back to that, you should keep your mouth shut.
Oh I'd rather have been responsible for making nothing than making... er.. 'Sonic the Motherf**cking Hedgehog' - never particuarly liked the series, and there are plenty of game franchises which are better than Sonic the Hedgehog.
As bad as Sonic is nowadays (though the occasional good game is released) he was more than a competent rival to Mario back in the day, and in fact the Dreamcast days (Sonic Adventure was grand). Hell, he was the reason Nintendo HAD a rival at all in the form of Sega. He IS their mascot after all. Moore really should stfu in the presence of great gaming industry personalities like Naka. He didn't only create Sonic but also produced Nights, Burning Rangers, Chu Chu Rocket, and Phantasy Star Online (though he also played a major role in the creation of the original Phantasy Star). And what did this idiot Moore do again? Oh, right, he helped kill Sega.
