Mega Man 9 out Sep. 24

Capcom's refreshingly retro platformer gets a date in Japan... rest of the world to follow?
Capcom's retro platformer sequel will be available for download on Wii Ware in Japan on September 24 - in a little under two weeks time.

That's according to Japanese mag Dengeki Online, which says that the awesome-looking NES-style follow-up will cost 1000 Wii Points to buy (about seven quid.)

There's no word on when the game will appear on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN at this point, but we can only assume that they'll appear there around the same time - especially as the 24th is a Wednesday, Xbox Live users.

In case you're oblivious to what the fudge we're on about, Mega Man 9 is a retro-styled follow-up developed to mimic the visual style of the first Mega Man games released in the 80s. The music and cut scenes are also similarly styled.

Have a look at how wicked it looks on our Wii game page.

/me jumps up and down like a loon

I cannae wait for this. It looks spankingly marvellous (in a retro sense)... I loved the Megaman games on the NES ^^. But then I am a retro freak.

Rubbish. I'm all for 2D action, but I fail to see why they had to make the game look that retro. Basically it looks crap, and whilst I know people will say "looks aren't everything", they are at least something. Why not make a nice HD 2D sequel in the same vain as the Street Fighter 2 Turbo update for XBLA?

I wonder whether they've opted to include the incredibly limited control scheme and questionable collision detection too, y'know, just for old times' sake? Rolling Eyes

Sounds like someone was pants at Megaman... *roffles*

After 2, this series began to dip.
