New PlayStation Home media

Loads of shots and another movie to eye up
Sony has released another batch of media from PlayStation Home, which WILL be out this year.

The Sony site says: "PS Home is a 3D social gaming service for the ever-growing community of PlayStation 3 users. Set in a beautifully rendered High Definition world, you'll be able to create a unique avatar and interact with other PS3 users, sharing game experiences and creating your own personal space.

"Fitting seamlessly into the PS3 experience, PS Home is unique and only available on PS3 as a free download from PlayStation Store, and can be launched directly from the Home Menu on PS3.

"Closed beta will expand gradually throughout the summer, moving to an open beta towards the end of 2008 when PS Home will become available to every registered PlayStation Network user."

From the time that I spent on Home at my mates, it seems to be working really well, so I don't understand why it is taking so long. It isn't a life changing piece of software, but it is fun and will add another nice feature to the PS3. Looking forward to seeing what difference it will make to my experience later (hopefully!) this year.

Is it one of those things that will lose it's shine quickly (like Facebook), or can you see yourself spending hours every week on it?

If you've got a good group of friends on your list, it can be a proper laugh - and a good way to setup online games. Even the arcade machines - which are pretty good - have leaderboards. And sometimes you may want to play pool or bowling with your pals for a bit of light relief.

It could be pointless without a few friends - but with, it could be a lot of fun.

I know a lot of people (not me though) who still spend hours each week on facebook - home will probably be simialr - some with use it endlessly others will almost never use it.

I just hope the servers are prepared properly in time for the full release - I imagine thats the main reason its not out yet - after konami's problems with MGSO and Sony's with SOCOM I would think they would want to avoid that all toegther

Sadly, Facebook has something this will never have...
The ability for people to log onto it at work...

You do know you will be spending most of your time on this wondering if that female character you're outrageously flirting with is really a female in real life or is she actually Big Buba, the serial pedo with a fetish for vaseline and cucumbers on the hunt for a new 'special friend'.

Speak for yourself, pal. I just want an innocent game of pool with the lads!

I've heard something about adult only areas. I should imagine that Sony will have something in place to protect the little 'uns from the f-bombs!

I'd imagine thats why this is taking so long to release. Sony are going to have to monitor and control this just as other social sites are now monitored and controlled. You don't want to be playing pool with Big Bubba, especially when he pulls out his special cue!

Sorry but this looks so pointless to me, fun for about an hour but if you wanna set up games with your (real) mates then why not use the alternative? Its been around for years and because of technological breakthroughs in the last 10 years or so you can get to your mates wherever they are...Its called a phone!

The video and screenshots look brilliant. Can't wait to play it.

When is a likely release (presuming it's not delayed to next year)? November? December?

Has potential.

All Im saying.

I don't see the fuss about Home. It's really no more exciting than the bloody avatars MS are pushing.
