We thought it was a bit of a mental idea in the first place but Activision has blocked Hollywood's attempts to make a movie based on Guitar Hero.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Rush Hour and X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner said he's well up for helming a Guitar Hero movie, but so far the game publisher's blocked his chances of making it happen.
"I'd really like to do it, but they're not letting me," Ratner told EW. "I expressed my interest, but because it's such a success, it's like now there's no reason to make a movie about it."
Apparently, Ratner envisioned a story about a small-town kid who dreams of fame and wins a Guitar Hero competition. "The game is wish-fulfilling, everyone can be a rock star," he said.
Here's our opinion: Why the bloody hell would anyone want to make or see a Guitar Hero movie?! Stick to your guns and skateboards Activision.
I'd read about this. I think this just goes to prove how godamn desperate these people are to guarantee a hit movie - to Hell with creativity and actual entertainment, just stick the GH name on it and make a dull film about a kid who plays guitar. Stupid idea.
Mind you, if they didn't hand well-established franchises (like the X-Men) to people like him; what else would he do? - I doubt he's actually capable of a classic film.
Thank christ for that, the director is a complete hack, X-Men 3 sucked total and utter balls.
I totally agree. He came along and simply destroyed a franchise that had tons of potential left. Undid everything that Bryan Singer had managed to do with the first two. Although Singer is no saint either, abandoning X-Men to work on Superman Returds.
Whoops, that should be an "n"... oh well, no going back now.
Ahhhh.... the joy of of seeing common sense prevail! That has to be one of the single WORST film ideas i've ever heard in my entire lifetime!! He should be punished heavily just for suggesting it.
Thank god, that does sound s**t, firstly it is a game to movie translation, so it will be crap, but secondly it is about guitar hero. I love guitar hero, but that has to be the worst idea of a film i've heard for a while, who would watch that
Seriously though what about Brain Training the movie?
A young boy from the wrong side of the tracks wins a brain training competition which takes him on a rollercoaster ride to the top. Fame & fortune beckons but he doesn't forget his roots and grows as a person a little along the way..
Alls thanks to his magic ability to do the reading aloud level, like, really fast
the idea was pretty naff not to mention flimsy idea for a video game related movie. No doubt it would have been rubbish not to mention unintentionally hilarious.
